Central Florida Beachside Boxer Bash?

New Smyrna is nice the only draw back is that the dogs must remain on their leashes, which can lead to a tangled mess! The dog park in Sanford is off leash which I think is nicer for the dogs so they can really romp and play. I have 3 neighbors that have boxers also, I will let them know of our Bash!

I agree. The beach would be SO nice if they could run free, but alot of leashed Boxers sounds like an accident waiting to happen to me!

Hmmm...

I've been in touch with Wendy about this and I'd love to come but I have a personal leash law so even if we do go, Buddy will remain on leash - after all - he did run away once - what's to say he won't do it again?! Another question - is t ok if I bring my other two dogs? I have a Beagle and a Dalmation/JRT mix too. That Dal can play off leash, but not the beagle or boxer

Another problem would be that Buddy is male agressive when they come over to us - he's not so bad if they're far away or not trying to lick me, but God forbid that a male dog (or human )actually come over and try to mess with me! Even my fiance' has to watch out and make no sudden moments That's another reason why I'd keep him leashed - his behavior is much easier to control when I have him tethered to my hip!

It's been a while

Sorry, I haven't posted in a while. My life has been so hectic. Anyway, the New Symrna park sounds like it might be more trouble than its worth, with the leash situation. I have plans to visit the Sanford park in the first week in January.

Also, I have a friend with a boxer who is in as well. This little get together is really starting to grow! I can't wait!

I called the Chamber of Commerce in Sanford today, they also have quite a nice little lake and a downtown area with shops and it sounds like lots of fun. I'm trying now to get in touch with the Best Western in case anyone wants to spend the night. I'll see if they will allow our furbabies to stay with us. The lady I spoke to from the Chamber, Angelia, was very helpful and sounds like she'd be interested in making the day lots of fun for us. I'll keep you posted.

The Best Western will allow dogs, but you have to pay a $20 non-refundable pet deposit. The cost per night is $69.

I am waiting for a call back from the Paw Park, basically just to let them know that we are going to descend on them. Sounds like we might be boating down, supposedly the St. Johns River empties into Lake Monroe and the hubby is real excited now that there is water for his boat to float in.

What do we do for food? I have a recipe for Boxer Bash Cake for the doggies, do we just bring food to feed ourselves and our babies?

Ok I am going to the park on Sunday. To confirm that it will be suitable for us. I was wondering (since I've never done anything like this) if there is any specific things I should be looking for. Some suggestions would be great. Thanks all. I can't wait.

Hi gang,

Just noticed this post going on about Paw Park. When Sega was still around, I used to take him to Paw Park almost twice a week (even though it is a 40 min drive for me each way). It is a 2 acre park, completely fenced in with double gates. It has doggie water fountains and showers, benches for the humans (no human potties though), clean up baggies, a "time out" area, a small dog area, and plenty of shade trees.

Weekend mornings are very busy and I used to meet a few other boxer owners there every Saturday. It would be a great place for a bash and February will be cool enough for everyone.

Like any doggie park, you take the chance that someone else there will have an agressive dog. Some weekend mornings there would be over 30 dogs running amuck, but only one or two "problem doggies" with ignorant owners. Children are allowed in the park, but I would not suggest bringing a toddler as they will definitely get run over--heck, even the adults get run over at times! Wear old clothes, as you will inevidably have muddy paw prints on you at the end of the day (I always looked like a homeless person after I left the park). Also, I would suggest bringing an extra water bowl for your boxer as they might not be used to drinking out of one of the fountains--it took Sega months to get used to it and I always had to bring his own water bottle. Food is not allowed as it will cause too much of a problem with the dogs, but drinks are.

Its a great park for the doggies, but unfortunately not very "picnic" friendly due to all the activity. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm not sure if the Paw Park council will let you completely have the park all to yourselves for a bash, but you never know!

Let me know when the exact date is and I will meet everyone! I'll even contact Florida Boxer Rescue & see if they can send their feelers out to any other boxer owners who would be interested in going to!

I just read your post Kathleen, I wish I would have earlier before I drove out to Sanford but, it was nice to get to visit the park anyway. It was everything you said. I went at about 2pm today (Sunday) and there were about 20-25 doggies there. All were friendly and having a great time.

I did see 6 picnic tables but, judging from the amount of dogs I don't think a picnic would be a great idea. The dogs would end up stealing more than we ate.

There wasn't much grass, mostly packed dirt with a few trees scattered about. We'll that's my in-put.
