I say rescue an adult boxer!!! He/She can even be an younger adult, maybe a year old or older. (or younger) You never really have to worry about puppies sitting in shelters or foster homes for very long, it's always the older babies that never really get a chance.

If you don't have the time and energy to house train, then def. don't get a puppy. Sometimes if you rescue then your new family member will already know the basic commands and may even be potty trained. Which is always a plus and you will be saving a life!!!! They will pay you back a million times- I promise :)

Keep us updated.

I have took in an older Lab/Shep mix when a friend went to a ship in the Navy, Zeus bless his heart was a dream. Edgar was a puupy that when I got him knew that he had coccidia and problems gaining weight. We went through the puppy stuff in the summer and by the time school came around again he did not need to go every two hours. Next time, I want an adult.

Spencer, our rescue was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. When we lost him, we were back up at rescue the following weekend. Unfortunately, my Emma can be a real pistol and she couldn't get along with anyone, I was heartbroken. We decided to get a puppy. After being puppy-less for almost seven years, you forget what it's like to be staring at the floor all the time and taking care of something that you can't turn your back on for one second! We also got our Giant Schnauzer when she was six months old. While puppies are wonderful and I'll snuggle with one whenever I have the chance, older dogs are just better for us.

There are pros and cons to each side and you really need to take an honest look at your lifestyle to see what you are able to handle. Taking the time to decide what age dog is best for you will pay off for everyone in the end! Good luck!

I always prefer a puppy because I have small children and really like to torture myself as much as possible. I however live in an area where boxers are hard to come by rescue wise. They are snatched up lickity split. If I were you, I would adopt an adult,(especially if there aren't any small children in your house) because of the previously mentioned reasons. Boxers are special at any age. Good luck on your journey!:)

for a long time i always thought ,start with a puppy...and we have many times over the years...for some reason i thought having one in their early life created a bond more than adopting an adult...two of the greatest dogs we ever had we rescued as adults, rocky is still with us and willie was with us 12 years,i think in someways we actually bonded quicker with them, than the puppies...so i was wrong...there an amazing bond with any dog you rescue, for i believe,God leads them to us....and rescues the new owner and the new dog...

I would say if you can, get an adult. Puppies are a TON of work, and boxer puppies, even more so (but also so much fun).

In our case, I'm dying to get another, but we have a cat, so unless we can find a cat friendly adult, we will have to start all over with a puppy again! (ARGH!)

My children are 8mo, 4yr, 17yr, and Lucy (I dont know im a chihauhau) 6yr. My neighbor has asked if I would like the litter mate to one of his dogs. She is 1yr rand her current family is mom, dad, and a 2y old who named her LuLu. They have had her since puppyhood.

You're not likely to find a boxer rescue that will adopt a dog to someone with children under 7.

I would look into LuLu. She's not an adult but not a puppy. You can have both! :) You need to find out what reasons the owners have for giving her up. Try to get as much information as you can. Most likely, given her age, they didn't do their research before getting a boxer. Most commonly, people who get rid of dogs at this age don't commit the time to exercise and training and don't want to deal with the poorly behaved result of an energized, untrained puppy. But, the question is, do you? :)

Good luck!

I would look into Lulu puppies are alot of work while rescues are good Lulu could end up there anyway if she needs a home and she is ready available just be warned she is in her terrible teen stage and that is why they might be giving her up. While I work for a rescue alot of the dogs we have have issues with s/a and non training and the wait is long, If Lulu needs work its still worth it she is young enough you can mold her into a great dog.

I can totally understand wanting your first Boxer to be a puppy. I got mine as a puppy. Now that I've done the 'puppy' thing, I'll only adopt adult dogs. Puppies are so much work and patience.
