Canidae changing formula??

Formula Change

We were not aware of a formula change when we purchased 2 35lb bags of lamb and rice. We were going through a bout of coccidia in our house. However when the stool did not harden up and the diarrhea did not clear up we began to wonder. We are trying to potty train 2 puppies with the runs. It is every where and our 4 year old pitbull is having soft stool also. We will not be purchasing anymore Canidae since the food is being processed at Diamond. I need a food for all 3 that hopefully will not give them gas. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I have been reading this thread since the beginning and had my doubts about Canidae. I just changed my dogs to Canidae about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I have not experienced any of the problems as the other posters, as a matter of fact both of my dogs have had the firmest stool ever in their lives. I am keeping a close watch on them for any signs, since I have read so many negatives on this food. But so far so good.

On finding a new food. Solid Gold is good, Wellness is good, Natural Balance is good, Blue Buffalo is good, Innova is good, California Natural, Healthwise to name a few.

I just switched to Canidae from Wellness because she just didn't seem to like the Wellness. She was originally on Canidae but had the runs so I switched her off to Wellness. But thinking back I think she just had a bug and it wasn't the food. With the Wellness she would eat a bit but leave a bunch in the bowl. With the Canidae she licks the bowl clean in in a minute and looks for more. I hope it is a quality food because I've read many good things about it.

Diesel has been on a new bag of Canidae for about 15 days now. His stools are always runny and yellow in color. Now this weekend he has blood in his stool and severe diarrhea. The new boxer I adopted a week ago came into the house with solid stools and has had runny stools ever since he got here and started eating canidae. I have feed this two my boxers for 3 years and have never had a problem until the switch. I am very disappointed and will not be buying canidae again.

I came across this thread a few days ago and it explains what happened to Maggie. She has been on Canidae for approximately 2 years. A couple of weeks ago she experienced diarrhea. There were a number of instances whereby she needed to go out at 3 AM (even after being out at 1 AM). In several instances it was uncontrollable and she had accidents in the house - this never happened even when she was an eight week old puppy. The last time she left a trail through the house and on an antique Persian rug. The poor thing just lay down beside the rug until I found her (I was upstairs and she did not warn me) looking so upset. Now we realize that it was the new formula. The least a company can do is to ensure that it is obvious that the formula has been changed - had I known I would have been monitoring more closely.

Also, it was mentioned that the manufacturing was outsourced to 'Diamond'. Was this company involved in the tainted food from last year? I would prefer if the end to end process was at Canidae's. At this point I will be searching for a new food. It is unfortunate that Canidae has chosen to make this change.

Update:


After a few weeks on the new formula, both dogs have developed loose stools that are yellow in color. Mia's eye snot is more prevalent, she isn't itching or anything, and her breath stanks. Time to start the search, I was contemplating Wellness Core, Taste of the Wild, and maybe Fromms four star.

TOTW does not guarantee that their food is Ethoxyquin free so personally I would pass on that and go with the other 2 instead.

I am just so upset with this company!! tyson did well on their old formula only for them to change it. Ever since they have, I haven't been able to get his loose stools under control. I have tried quite a few brands but no luck. I have now switched him to raw. This whole thing just outrages me. If they needed to charge more for the old formula, I would have been willing to pay it. But to change it without no type of notice or anything....
Sorry, just having a bad day and this just makes me think this company doesn't care about their loyal costomers.

I am leaning towards either one of the Wellness' (Core or their normal formula thats comparable to Canidae), Fromm's Four Star and will now look at Innova. I know there's no way to predict which will give me the least amount of trouble without trying them. At his point I don't think it matter switching her cold turkey, can't give her worse taco craps than she's already had.
