Someone help me. I think I am about to cross some sort of line between normal and "crazy dog lady". My Lucy has had the runs for the last couple of days. She is eating and playing normally but pooping is a problem. Even had an accident in her kennel (she was very upset about this). Here's where I am goin' over the line - I am seriously considering calling in sick to work so I can take her to the vet tomorrow morning instead of waiting. It's not like she is on death's door but I hate to leave her home when she is obviously not 100%.

I've stayed home from work to take care of my sick Cypress before. I don't think that makes you crazy. He had the runs and is not crated. I figured it would be in everyones best interest (my own) to stay home to let him out every hour so he wouldn't mess the carpet. It also saved him much embarrasment cause he HATES having an accident. I have never seen a dog so mortified to make a mess on the carpet. He just looked at me like "ohhhh I KNOW not to go in the house but I couldn't hold it" Poor thing, just broke my heart. Hope your girl is feeling better. Give her a kiss from me!

I don't think that's crazy. Thankfully, I've never had to do that but I have gone in late to work then left early when my Boomey had to be dropped off to the vet for the day to be sedated for a chest x-ray (they never ended up sedating him by the way, the nurse said he just turned to stone when they put him on the table!!!).
Boomey is also VERY embarrassed when he has an accident. I usually hear him trotting down the hallway to our bedroom when he needs to go out. One night I heard him tear down the hallway, stop..then the sound of exploding diahrea (sp.?). I raced out to him, and there he was in the spare bedroom (white carpet) looking absolutely mortified! Poor baby..I couldn't be mad..I knew he couldn't help it. He couldn't get out the back door fast enough after that and looked ashamed for the rest of the day.

She's your baby, and yes, you are absolutely entitled to taking time off work to take care of her. Most sick leave can be taken for the purpose of taking care of family - and in this house, Lael is just as much family as the rest of us!!
I've taken a sick day for Lael when she was a small puppy... and it was the best day ever! A whole day devoted to my pup. It was wonderful.

Call in sick! I've done it: "my puppy was sick all night, we went to the hospital, I need to sleep"... My office is quite small - and everyone knows Chloe - so they are supportive (and still laugh - but so what!)...

Call in sick because they are sick ??? Heck, I have called in sick when Mattie was like "Momma, just stay home today ... we can sleep together on the couch and play at the park!" I would call in sick in a heartbeat. Everyone knows how important Mattie is to me. I have a sign in my cubicle that say "I (heart) my doggie" LOL. OBSESSED !!!! You are not crazy... just IN LOVE !!

I am self-employed and calling in sick for me means calling all of the clients that I have scheduled for the day (I am a hair designer). 99% of them are pet lovers and completely understand that my "girls" are my babies. I don't have skin-children. I have done it many times. I lost a 17 year old cat in April of 2003 and she spent 4 years with chronic renal failure. I have been in your shoes multiple times and have not even given it a second thought as to staying with a sick animal. I wouldn't be any good away from them during those times and they are FAR more important than any job, IMO.

Call In!!!! She's your baby just like Tulsa Dan said, no differant than kids. I would do it in a minute. My boss is cool enough that I could even say, I'm staying home with Coco and he'd be ok with it. I went home early last time she had the runny poos and took care of her. If your boss isn't a pet lover or whatever, you don't necessarily have to say that your staying home with the boxer baby. Hope all works out well for you.
