But mom ... you left them on the counter!

Okay, I haven't posted a funny Moab story, or anything for that matter, in awhile so thought I'd share this one.

The Saturday before Thanksgiving was my baby shower and my sister and best friend came in town to host it for me. They made all the food (we did a brunch) and brought most of it with them, including these fabulous looking cream cheese danishes that took my BF over 6 hours to make from scratch. She came in Thursday night and worked in the Dallas market on Friday morning while I ran some errands I needed to do. DH headed to work after I did and neither of us thought anything about the danishes sitting on the counter. After all, they were in a sealed 13x9 glass container at the back of the counter and Moab's never bothered something that large & heavy before. But no, I got back to the house a few hours later to find the bag of powdered sugar on the floor (still intact thank goodness) and the lid to the glass container beside it. Of course, Moab's met me at the door with his "guilty" look and wiggle so I know something's up. The container was in the living room ... spotless! There wasn't a crumb to be found and it was almost so clean, you'd have thought I'd pulled it from the dishwasher! He'd eaten all 3 12 inch long danishes and his sides looked like there were about to pop!

Needless to say, I have no idea how good they actually were, but from the look on his face, they must have been pretty yummy. I'm just thankful he didn't break the container and cut himself up in the process. Once I got done being upset with him and we all figured out what we were going to make to replace them, it made for a really funny shower memory to put in the baby book!

nonoicon Moab those were not for you. great story. My doggy growing up Snoopy had a similar indiscretion. My mother had just made a meat-loaf and had it sitting on the counter ready to go into the oven. My brothers were outside raising hell and she went outside to yell at and get them to stop. twenty minutes later when she went back into the kitchen the loaf pan was sitting in the same exact place spotless. It took her a minute to be sure that she had actually made the meatloaf already. Snoopy did not even move the dish, don't know how he did it, but he sure did get a good dinner that night.

I've seen the same thing. Back when we had my first dog Winchester (golden retriever) my mom made my dad a double layer cake with chocolate icing for his birthday. She covered it and left it on the kitchen counter.

Well, we came back from running errands, walked into the kitchen and caught Chester ON the kitchen counter with his head buried in the cake and completely COVERED in chocolate icing.

We probably shouldn't have laughed (Mom didn't look too happy), but it was too funny. And luckily he didn't actually ingest too much...but even now that he had been at the bridge for 7 years, I still look back and ask "how in the h*** did he get the cover off the cake?"

I am fully convinced that when we are not looking, dogs paws turn into human hands.

Good memories hehehe.

Great story.
I remember my partners 30th he had two birthday cakes and i left one on the kitchen side the following day still in the box, went off to work i came home a few hours later and Kymba met me at the front door wiggling but no Cooper so i walked in to the kitchen and he was sat in the corner with a huge square shaped belly and a red ribbon at his feet, he had eaten the whole cake and left the ribbon for me. He looked so sick and couldn't move his belly was that full, but he still managed a little wiggle of thanks for the cake.

Tee hee! Naughty Moab! But hey, you can't blame him for knowing what's up LOL. Millie recently ate all the stuffing leftovers that were left on my mother in law's stove while we were out at the mall (Black Friday!). The worst part was that her daddy was home with her and didn't notice! She's a raw fed dog...needless to say we had some constipation issues afterwards.

That must be the answer - because how in heaven's name did Moab remove the lid and take the container to the living room without breaking either? Hmmm - maybe boxers should be used to train men and children - less breakage! LOL

That's what I couldn't figure out! The lid had one set of tooth marks on one corner, like he'd grabbed it and pulled it back in one smooth move. He's become very good at opening containers since we started taking leftovers to work more often and leaving the resulting dirty dishes in the sink when we get home at night. He may clean them out, but he seldom destroys them to the point they can't still be used!
