I couldn't help myself and went into the Pet Store in the Mall. They were actually selling, for $800, a Bullmation - bull dog, dalmation mix!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :(

I have never seen a "mixed" breed being sold in a Pet store before - seen some poorly bred dogs that resembled mixes....

When I asked the worker ahow much this puppy was, she had to add that the purebred Bulldog was being sold for $3500 - I kid you not!!! $3500!!!!!! So the Bullmation is certainly a bargin".

Poor puppies at the mercy of irresponsible "breeders".

 This infuriates me! That must of been a weird looking dog. I feel bad for these poor dogs. I hope some day all these "pet stores" are forced to close up. I can't believe they get away with charging so much for dogs that come from puppy mills! I absolutely refuse to walk in a pet store ever again.

I shouldn't say this because then someone will probably say they have one, but the ugliest dog I have ever seen was a Puggle (Pug + Beagle). Oh sure, take two dogs that are prone to being overweight and you get a little fat squatty thing with a weird tail. Ai-yi-yi. I just feel bad for people who buy Goldenpoos or Labradoodles or any of these other breeds because oftentimes they are actually convinced they've got a purebred dog on their hands.

I'm trying not to picture the Bullmation, nor the mating that created it . . .

That was my first thought also :( Bulldogs have a host of skin and breathing issues and dalmations can have temperment problems - sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. The people who purchase such a dog better plan on lots of dog insurance.

I won't give any business to stores that sell puppies, and I tell them so.

I also take every opportunity to inform/remind people that they are being screwed and for every mix that these sickos bring into this world, another poor pup is being euthanized at their local shelter.

Most of these statements fall on deaf ears, but I do get through to the occasional potential buyer. :)

I saw an ad in our local paper today for a breed of NKC registered pups for $650.00. Not sure what NKC is, but I also warn people that there are getting to be lots of registering bodies. As AKC gets continues to make it harder to register questionable pups through DNA requirements, the puppy mills are forming their own registering bodies. The unknowing are being dupted left & right.

The NKC is the National Kennel Club. It's pretty similar to the UKC in that some breeds that AKC doesn't yet recognize can be registered with them they have been around for some time. I've heard different things about them but here is the link to their site. http://www.nationalkennelclub.com/

Yep they sell just about anything. Here they sell anything mixed with a poodle for about 500. I am like what are you people thinking buying a dog for that much when you could buy a purebreed poodle from a reputable breeder for about that much.. The new thing I have seen is a boxer/bulldog mix. They look like a bulldog but are tall like a boxer.. I suppose people dont know that you could get a nice mixed breed dog from the pound for like 60 and be saving a little life instead of supporting byb that breed obviuosly any two dogs together to make a buck!!!

We were in Edmonton this past week & looking through the paper saw an ad for a boddle- a cross of a boxer and standard poodle and they were asking $850. It really makes you wonder where peoples brains are at!!!

We have a male bulldog and a female boxer, and you have no IDEA how many people tell us how wonderful the puppies would look and how they want one, "when we breed them..." (They automatically assume we are planning to!!!)

I just look at it as an opportunity to inform people about good breeding, and say (1) we wouldn't breed them b/c they are two different breeds, (2) neither one has been health-tested or started competing yet, so we have no reason to think they would produce good puppies with other dogs of the SAME breed, and (3) puppies are so much responsibility that even for dedicated dog owners like us, it is something we aren't going to do for a LONG time if ever. -Mariah.

I also never buy things at pet stores that sell puppies (since Harlie LOL) But I make it a weekley thing to take my little sister to those pet stores, so we can play with the poor puppies in the extra small cages with no toys. The puppies are soooo excited when you get them out. I never would buy from there, but I always feel like I am doing a good deed just by playing with the poor babies. Its so sad to go back the next week and see the same puppies there. Especially sad when you go many weeks in a row and the same puppy is there and no one wants it because it isnt a pup anymore because its so big already. Very sad.
