I don't know if she has married but they lived in Carle Place New York. Her name was Kim Chicarini ( I think that's the spelling). I think she lives in Arizona now, and from what my mother last heard of her she was making really good money. I'm fairly certain I can't be positive but one of her dogs won something in Westminster. She didn't show me how much money she has made but an observant person can observe if someone is doing alright. I appreciate your suspicions I wouldn't just make something up for the sake of making it up. I'm really not like that.

To answer someone elses question about have I learned anything. Of course I learned some stuff, I'm not for BYB per se. But I am for people breeding animals for families and not just show dogs. That have to fit into a perfect picture of a boxer and cost and exorbanant amount of money. I think someone can breed dogs for a hobby and monetary gain, and still do a good job.

Oh and Ashley my dogs name is Tyson too, just thought that was funny.

I have to update my site I know, we just moved two weeks ago. Which is when my wife bought my puppy. I just got my computer hooked up.

Responsible breeders do not breed just show dogs. It is a fully-accepted fact that most litters are going to be sold to pet homes - to families. That does not mean that breeders should just ignore the standard (the "prefect picture" of the Boxer) - without the standard, we have no breed. And I'll ask again, if you think $800 is an exorbitant amount of money to pay for a dog, what would you do if it needed a $2000 surgery? That "low-priced" puppy just became much less of a bargain, didn't it?

I think someone can breed dogs for a hobby and monetary gain, and still do a good job.

I strongly disagree. Give me one example (with specifics, as in what testing they're doing, etc.).

Never heard of her, but I'll check my Boxer books - if she was "very famous" she'll be in one or more of those. Do you know what her kennel name was?

I have learned from this discussion too. I also was under the impression that responsible breeders made some profit starting with the second litter (depending on the # of puppies & if no medical issues arose of course). Even though I thought this I knew they were not money driven because who would invest that kind of energy, time, effort, risk, research & upfront money to make their first "profit" after a second litter 3 years later. There are easier & faster ways to make $4.00 over that period of time.

Not all puppies that come from health tested parents are show prospects at champion prices. I believe the pet quality puppies from these litters cost less which closes the gap to a happy medium when comparing byb price to champion line price. That may be something to check into when you are in the market for a future puppy.

Its a crap shoot. You are taking a risk when you buy from a hobby breeder. Kind of like not having heath insurance because it costs too much but heart attacks, cancer and arthritus run in the family.

Her name is Kim Pastella (chickarini was her grandfathers name) that's the name I remembered, and she was a handler for multiple champions for the Westminster dog shows. But regardless she was only my babysitter when I was kid I haven't seen her since I was 11. She lived on Elmwood court in Carle Place L.I. NY, if you want a SSN or DNA I won't be able to help you. I was stating that there family bred boxers and seemed to make money doing it is all I was getting at, don't read more into than I'm saying. I'm sure she would object to my opinions also, adn I am in no way trying to insuate she would side with me. I'm sure she wouldn't. If you're trying to catch me in a lie you are going to fail, because like I said I have better things to do than make up stories on a discussion board. I don't know the name of her kennel like I said I was a kid. Kids don't tend to take interest in the name of someones kennel.

People who breed for show are also breeding for family pets. That's why knowing both parents backgrounds is so important. You have to realize MOST show breeders' pups are sold as pets. I agree, not everyone wants a dog for show and MOST just want a nice family pet...in this case you go to the show breeder and buy the show pup's litter mate who is being sold as a pet but still comes w/ all the "good stuff" the show pup comes w/. And like Peggy pointed out...the pet quality pup is usually sold at a lower price than it's show quality litter mate/s.

That's not gonna happen.:( If you look at the entire breeding program of a reputable breeder you're more than likely gonna see a loss. If you look at just one litter then you may see a gain but this wouldn't be a correct way to look at it.

 I assume this is to me...it's Alisha, happens often on the boards though.

Another Tyson...and I thought I had the only one.;)

You can also post pics in your gallery here on the boards...makes it easy for other memebers to see them. Also, we all love to see pics of Boxers and kids...you'll need to get some posted asap!:D

WHAT?!?! You expect someone to figure this out w/out the use of DNA???

Trying to figure out who you're talking about mainly because you stated they made money off breeding. All show breeders aren't reputable and if they are "famous" then many will know if they are infact reputable or not (also, being well known doesn't make a breeder reputable ;) ).

With you saying this breeder was well known then it's quite possible someone on the boards knows of her and could shed some light on if she is what one would consider reputable, if she really made money off her dogs or simply had another income that you didn't know about (if she was a well known handler then that could be where the money you're speaking of came from...from what I understand they are well paid for their services), etc. I don't think anyone was trying to catch you in a lie...just trying to figure out how a reputable breeder made money from breeding.:)

Yes, Kim Pastella is a "very famous" Boxer handler (among other breeds), and I'm sure she makes very good money at it. I don't know of any Boxers that she has bred herself, though. (She has bred MinPins, but I think that's fairly recent.) I don't think Kim lives in AZ, though, since she's handling primarily for Hi-Tech which is in MA.

I was stating that there family bred boxers and seemed to make money doing it is all I was getting at, don't read more into than I'm saying.

I'm not reading anything into it. You said earlier, "we had an actually very famous boxer breeder that lived across the street from us." A very famous Boxer breeder would be in one of my Boxer books. And, in fact, the very famous Boxer breeder that was in that Pedigree commercial, Dr. William Truesdale, is in many of my Boxer books.

If you're trying to catch me in a lie you are going to fail, because like I said I have better things to do than make up stories on a discussion board.

Why would you think I was trying to catch you in a lie? Do you get accused of lying often? I was only trying to ascertain how famous this very famous breeder really was, and if they truly were making a lot of money from breeding, or if they had a lot of money to begin with. Now, it's possible that Kim's parents were breeders, although I've never heard the name associated with breeding - but I think even as a teen she was working with the Truesdales.

No I don't get accused of lying often, my integrity is impuneable and I certainly wouldn't sell it out to try to impress some people on a discussion board. You were trying to catch me in a lie, as was the other one who commented sarcastically on who is this "famous boxer breeder". Be honest with yourself you were and that is why I took offense to it. There family did breed boxers lots of them, for along time. I can assure you she did breed many boxers herself. I'm not trying to get into a snippy argument over semantics, I never insulted you so lets keep the discussion friendly without an air of mockery or insult.

If she works with the Truesdales now that's great but that isn't who I was talking about remember I was a kid this was in the 80's. That HER family bread boxers, now she handles for the Truesdales thats great, but again wasn't who I was talking about.

I personally know nothing about the breeder you had mentioned. Not because she's not famous, but because I haven't really researched that part. I was the one who asked if you could name this "very famous breeder" because I was curious. I would imagine that because she was such a famous, reputable breeder who did babysit you, then you would've learned the importance of health testing. I would also think that you would see how much work and money goes into the puppies and caring for the mother throughout the pregnancy. I thought that maybe she would've taught you a few things. Especially why you're better off going through a reputable breeder instead of some no name person who puts ads in papers to sell their pups. I don't know, perhaps I was trying to catch you in a lie. It just doesn't make sense to me that you were babysat by this "incredible breeder" and yet you can still honestly say that you support BYBers. Just my own personal opinion of course....

Is it so difficult to understand I was a child she was teenager, she babysat for extra money and to help my family out, my father worked long shifts and my mother worked part time. There family bred many champion boxers, they had a kennel out back usually with about ten to fifteen boxers back there. And there house was filled trophies and awards. My mother later told me she is a famous breder in the dog world and is doing very well. When I knew her she was a teenager and while she took me and my brothers to many dog shows. I don't believe she was a famous handler yet. Again I knew her from when I can remember back maybe three to eleven. My mother is still in contact with her family I am not. What would she teach a six year old about breeding that is going to stick? I just liked playing with the dogs.
