I don't know if I agree with everyone here. If you have two good dogs breeding them and finding them good homes can do a great service for families out there who want a boxer, but can't afford AKC certified breeders prices. My wife surprised me with a puppy I'm guessing from a "backyard breeder" because of the low price. She met the parents they were both boxers, very sociable and friendly. I took him to the vet to get a checkup, shots, and worm check. The vet told me he was a beautiful dog, and physically great condition. So my family got a great puppy for a smaller price, the breeder got some extra cash. I don't think she's contributing to overpopulation because her puppies sell fast and find homes. I have a small child so for me bringing home a full grown dog wasn't an option as it isn't for most people. So what's wrong with breeding dogs for families? isn't this what they did for hundreds of years before just recently?
I take it you do not work with rescue? associate with rescue or even own a rescue correct?? because if you did ANY of the above you would know the reason we stress RESPONSIBLE BREEDING.
Majority of dogs in rescue are from BYB's.
Let me give you a little background info. I have a BYB pup, she was found on the side of the road at 4 weeks, with 4 other dogs, rescue got her and NURSED her back to health, she was emaincipated, covered in feces, had scarpotic mange, ALL together a BAD pup, NO ONE thought she would make it. She was too young and had to many things wrong. Well RESCUE went out of their way and cared for this dog day and night, she made it and i adopted her at 5 months, 5 MONTHS to recover!. at 10 months she was diagnosed with SEVERE hip Displaysia, AT 10 MOnths!! So not only did this dog almost die at 4 weeks she now has severe hip displaysia, for some people this is no big deal. For me IT IS HUGE!!! This is not ANY dog this is MY dog and her name is Subi!!! If she had been RESPONSIBLY bred, she would not have been found on the side of the road in the shape she was in and would not have HD. Sure she will have an average life for the next few years but when she starts to hit about 6 she will have issues running with her sister Bailey, she will not be able to climb steps as easily as she can now, she will not be able to jump on the bed and cuddle with mommy. BUT she will have the best that I can give her!!
This is a situation i would not wish on my worst enemy, it is truly heartwrenching to know that she will not be able to do everything bailey can when she gets older.
Subi is the product of a backyard breeder, many dogs in rescue are products of backyard breeders, dogs with health and hip issues are products of backyard breeders.
My advice before PROMOTING irresponsible breeding and backyard breeders maybe you should take home one of these dogs and realize the emotional strain that goes into owning a product of BYB.
Breeder charge the high prices to pay back what they have spent on their dogs,; medical exams, health testing, hip testing, temperment, etc etc, they give health guarantees to back up what they have charged and they take the dogs back if something happend- BYBS dont do this, they go to RESCUE!
We, rescues, are crowded enough without peolpe going and promoting IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDING!
