Hey BW Fam

I want to thank you for allowing us to be apart of BW. We had just recently come back and now our beloved 1 1/2 yr old boxer girl Branndi is gone. We will truly miss her. This is a very overwhelming time for us.

Branndi was in good health. Our problems seemed to have started on Feb 7. Branndi had her annual shots, heartworm and began Comfortis. We brought her home and she ate a big meal as usual and rested. By Feb 11, she was not eating and her eyes were red. On the morning of the 12th I was taking her to the Vet because she would not eat was walking slow, vomiting and lethargic. Branndi spent the whole day at the Vet they called me and told me she was depressed and that they would spend one-on-one time with her, feed her and give her fluids. I picked her up that evening and we spent the next week neglecting all other duties to ensure that Branndi was loved. I was able to work from home in order to give her some extra TLC. On Saturday Feb 14, she seemed to have bounced back she began to run through the house and was eating like a horse. We were all so happy.

Well on Feb 17, we came home to find our beloved resting under a tree. I immediately called the Vet and tried to avoid my 5 yr old seeing her. It was to late he ran out to play with her and came back screaming. I could not speak with a Vet but the girl on the other end of the phone gave her condolesces and asked if we wanted to cremate her. I felt so violated. She told me there was nothing they could do and that the Humane Society would not come and pick her up I would have to take her to them. I was livid. I hung up the phone and called the breeder he gave me the number to his Vet and they allowed me to bring her in. We spent 4 1/2 hours at the Vet. They determined that her cause of death was possible breed related cardiomyapathy.

Losing Branndi is so hard and I do not know how to console my 5 yr old who is looking for her to get better and come home. She touched our lives in so many ways in just a year and a half. Before I went to bed last night I actually went to the door to let her in and began to cry. This morning I filled the dog bowl up to give her her morning feeding and my son said Momma what are you doing with Branndi's bowl. I have to try and pull myself together in order to help him to understand. He wants another dog and I do not know if I will be able to love another as much as we loved her.

Please keep us in your prayers and any advice on how to console my 5yr old would be great and should we purchase another boxer in the future.

Her spirit is in the heavens.!

I am so sorry for your loss and can relate to how they touch our lives in such a profound way.
You need time to grieve before you start to heal.
You will find the right words to offer to your son when the time is right.
I'll be looking for that very bright star in the sky tonight.
God Speed Branndi

I am so, so sorry for your loss, and so young :( I lost a girl to Boxer Cardiomyopathy at three years and it truly broke my heart. As for your son, depending on your beliefs, he does need to understand that Branndi will not be coming home, but has gone to a good place where dogs are safe and well. I believe in an afterlife. If your famliy does then you can assure him he will see this pup again. If not, then you tell him her time on earth is over but she is at peace. It is hard with little ones.

If you decide on another boxer you need to do your homework. Even then there are no guaruntees but at least you will have done all you can. You can start on this site reading about the testing you shoudl expect any responsible breeder to do. I wish you well and hope sweet memories of your girl comfort you. God speed sweet Branndi
