I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate car problems.

I agree with Scrappers mom about this though (and im sure you agree) that drinking and driving is UNEXCUSABLE.

Aside from the drinking, (my husband was not) he did manage to total 2 cars in the last year and got in a fender bender between the two (which wasnt reported but we had to put $500 worth of damages on our credit card so the other driver would not report) SO...we're down to 1 car with two busy schedules, two kids, and two dogs. Its a pain in the butt but for him to get LIABILITY insurance it would cost $120/mo minimum so we cant afford a 2nd car.

I hope your insurance issues work out and I hope this will open your bf's eyes so he will be much more responsible in the future. GOOD LUCK!

Oh Ashley!

im so sorry to hear about your situation... so many of my close friends have gotten DUI's its ridiculous. BF is definately an idiot, and needs to be tossed to the curb... after he pays all the damages, and pays you back for bailing him out! One of my old roomies had a BF who borrowed her car to work (as a pizza del. boy), parked it in front of a strip club (located in a VERY shady part of town), left the keys in the car w/ the engine running, then went to deliver the pie. 2mins later, when he came back out, someone had stolen the car. what an idiot (this was one of several idiotic tendencies). needless to say, he was kicked out, VERY fast. i hope things work out *hugs* you can always vent to us here. ;)

all I can say is wow!
I would make him buy you a new car and insure it!
tell him to sell his stuff if need be!
so sorry to hear about this. you know one of my theories is that boxer owners have a much higher level of patience as opposed to the general public. otherwise he'd be dead!

Bad, Bad Boyfriend smashicon ! I am sorry that your car is totalled! Thank goodness he's okay, and no one else was hurt either!

I am sorry but I can't condone drinking & driving AT ALL. I lost 2 friends many years ago in the same accident. There were 3 in the car, all intoxicated, the driver lived, but lost his sister and best friend. There is just too much at risk to drink & drive...money & cars can always be replaced...lives can't!

As for BF....maybe he should get a 2nd job to pay for the extra that you're going to have to pay in insurance! You weren't doing anything wrong...you shouldn't have to come out of your pocket...period!

I'm done preaching now...hope everything works out for you!

So sorry to hear about your car. I hope everything works out. Ever see that T-shirt that says...Dump him. This summer my cousin 31 and his wife 29 had their first child after being married 8 years....the joy of their life a healthy baby boy. They were going out to eat and stopped by his sisters house(my cousin) she insisted that they leave the baby with her so they could have a romantic night. They didnt want to but she kept insisting. Well on there way back to pick up their newborn they were hit by a drunk driver and killed. Devastating....absolutely devastating for the whole family. The baby is being raised by her family but of course we are all there for support. I once had an 8 year old boy in my class that did not have an eye and major scarring on his head because they pulled over to the side so mom and dad could change drivers at 3 am sure enough a drunk driver hit the car and now Taylor had no eye....great kid though. There are so many lessons to learn....unfortunately for the innocent they pay the price as well.

Just thought I would I would give everyone an update on things. My insurance company has dropped me, but put they put me through to their sister company. I've already started looking at cars and getting quotes and if I get the car I want my car payments will be the same, but my insurance will be going up at least $100 a month. Which I'm not worring about because I my boyfriend is going to pay the difference so I'm gonna get the car I want!!! Since it's his fault that I'm in this damn mess anyways!

As for him this has been a life changing experience! I have never even agreed with anyone drinking and driving and he has always been against it too. He though that he would be fine since his last drink was at 9:30pm. He woke me up in the middle of the night 2 nights ago sweating really bad and crying. He told me that he had a dream about the wreck execpt I was with him and the wreck ended up killing me. He hasn't even had the desire to drink since he's wrecked. Which I hope that this weekend it doesn't change.

I'm thinking about writing up some kind of contract with him agreeing to pay the difference in the insurance just so I don't get screwed in the end if something happens to us. What does everyone think about that???

You can try, but this is going to follow you for a long time. I can just imagine this story on Judge Judy should he flake out and decide not to pay somewhere down the road.

I think you should definitely have him sign something and get it notorized. all you're doing is protecting yourself. good luck!

I think the contract idea is a good one and I would have it notorized and contact an attorney in your area to see how legal and binding it is gonna be.
Next step....get rid of him!!!!! It sounds like you have given him enough chances when he messes up and with each mess up he digs the hole alittle deeper.

Good luck.

I agree with the last few posts... do what you can now to protect yourself later... you never know what the future holds and you don't want to be stuck with all of this, without knowing you did all you could to prtect yourself.
