boxers for protection??

I don't know about "training" them for this purpose either. Coco can be just as sweet as anything most of the time but she is very protective of us "the pack" and our home. When we're in the car with her, she doesn't like people getting too close to the car, especially if the kids are with me. I don't think Coco would allow a stranger to come into our home if we weren't there. Even if we are home and someone comes to the door, I can tell you that she will stand between us & them until she knows they're ok and we have invited them in. Once in, she is all kidney beans & kisses as long as we invited them in. I would never call them mean unless they felt they had a reason to be. I think boxer's are pretty good at evaluating a situation and acting appropriately. I have an Akita that's the same way, she can be very aggressive if she feels she's in a situation that requires her to be that way, otherwise she is just a big baby, hence her name, Babi.

Mine are more of an alarm system. A stranger at the door gets the barking, snorting and carring on, until they are told it is okay. They can hear someone coming up the walk and look out the window and if they don't know them they let them know to beware.

On the other hand if they know who it is we get the boxer dance spinning and wiggle butts.

I feel extremly safe with my loveable alarm system!

Great Protector!

Jacob is an incredible protector, and makes me feel very safe. When I'm home & a stranger comes to the door, Jacob lets them know that he's there by letting out a few deep barks & maybe a growl. If I let them in, Jacob then reads me & my comfort level. I feel sorry for anyone who would try to come into our house when we weren't there!!! Jacob wouldn't let them go very far. Maybe if it was a good friend that visits often, & that's only a maybe!! We did not train Jacob to protect us or the house. It just happened naturally!

I got Beau as a companion, but also to look intimidating to possible intruders. He doesn't like men, and he will generally growl at them if they come into the house. I've always said that he would eat someone up if he came into the house in the middle of the night...well, 2 nights ago a friend of mine was mugged and stayed the night at my house. When she came into my room to use the restroom at 2:30 in the morning, I didn't wake up. She said that both of the boys looked at her, but when she said, "It's ok boys, just go back to sleep" they both did so! I'm just hoping it's because they know her!!! Beau will stand between me and anyone he views as threatening. As for the children part...Beau doesn't like kids. I think he's just a little confused about what they are since he saw one for the first time at 10 months. I'm in the process of socializing him with children. I'm pretty sure protectiveness varies from dog to dog.

I love the fact that they go on patrol for me as I am home alone at night also. I also let them make the decision whether or not a stranger is good or bad. They let the tv repair man come in yesterday without a sound and just loved him to death; but last summer, they would not allow one of the guys that came to seal the driveway onto our property. I have to say that I do trust their judgement.

I also love the fact that I don't get any solicitors any more. People walking the neighborhood going house-to-house just pass right by ours.

The only problem we have is that they do bark more than I would like. Our house sits up a bit higher than most of the rest of the street and the dogs can see the whole street, so they think they have to protect all that they can see. They let everyone know when someone gets company...

My Tessa is not here as a protection dog, but she is always watching who comes and goes.

I think they're just naturally protective dogs. Razz sure is. She is much more fond of women. I was home by myself and when my boyfriend came home he walked in the door and I was in the kitchen making dinner and Razz spun so fast and literally snarled and lunged at the door until she seen it was him. She thought someone random was just walking in. She's a very protective dog. If someone comes to visit and she's told they're ok she lays at my feet the whole time and watches them. If I leave the room she is right with me. She lets them know she's there and if they try to hurt someone they're in for trouble.

Rocky is a total love bug and I had my doubts about his true protective instinct until he bit a guy at my home who was harrassing our cat Coco. Rocky bit him and turned into this dog I hardly recognized. I think when push comes to shove most boxers will protect.

I always said Cisco would follow around a burgler and hope for some lovin. :rolleyes: He is still a pup though, not quite 11 months.
But, a few days ago I was laying on the couch. Cisco as asleep on the floor right next to me. Hubby came up and started wresteling with me. Cisco jumped inbetween us and put his muzzle against my chest, blocking hubby, like he was protecting me! He was not agressive at all, but I now think he would be if he thought he need to.
