Boxers attack elderly woman

Sadly, irresponsible owners are at fault, but the dogs and the poor lady are the ones that pay.

What is even scarier is this happened in Colorado which has some of the USA's most unfair pit bull bans. There are probably already some "officials" thinking that the boxer should be added.

That's what I'm afraid of. Luckily the pit bull ban hasn't reached my area, but if it happens down south, then I'm afraid its only a matter of time before Ft. Collins gives in. I'm sorry that this happened, and really the owners are to blame. I hope the woman it ok. I too would be interested to hear how the attack happened.

It is unfortunate that the woman was injured. We don't know the whole story and never will.

Were these two lost, hungry and frightened? Did the lady have a cane that they were afraid of? Did she appear nervous to them when she saw them wiggling and running towards her? Did she make any gestures that they might have taken as threatening? Did she scream? Did she attempt to kick or injure them just because they were bigger dogs and she was afraid of them?

The scenarios are endless....she sufferred and the dog that was found will suffer. The one still running loose is sufferring. Perhaps these dogs were never loved and cared for and never taught any socialization.

Whatever triggered the events won't ever be known and since Boxers were involved it will only give them a bad rap.

In general I almost always side with the dog when a bite happens. Larger, stronger dogs are physically capable of killing a human. 2 involved makes it just that much easier. Even if I were to get bitten I would wonder and think long and hard about what my role in the situation was. There are more good dogs than bad. There are more bad dog owners than bad dogs.

Oh, I hate hearing stories like that. Rarely do we hear about boxers. I only know of one case where a boxer attacked a man. I sure hope that poor lady gets well real soon. Irresponsible owners are behind this one, no doubt in my mind.

You only seem to get half the story in these situations. Sadly, I recently read that a man invented two stories about dog attacks, equal in severity, and tried to get newspeople interested. One story featured a mutt, the other, a pitbull. Nine times out of ten, the newspeople were only interested in the story featuring the pit.

I am surprised that the dogs weren't called pit bulls.

Right now I am going to fight to get BSL in my town overturned. I have been doing some research in to the cases of dog bites. As much as we would like to think that Boxers are the sweetest dogs on earth, they have been involved in fatal attacks on humans. I have contacted the American Canine Foundation http://acf2004.tripod.com/index.html for assistance. For those of you that live in areas that have a BSL you may be interested in the information available on this site. Specifically the link to the Ohio Supreme Court that overturned a conviction and ruled the BSL as unconstitutional and a violation of the 14th Amendment allowing for due process. A man in CO also won his case as the prosecuting atty. could not identify a pit bull. -Jan

What does one have to do to any breed to make them like that?? Neglect, irresponsibility play major roles and it's about time the law begins to enforce harsh punishments to the to the owners who are guilty and NOT the dog! That's just like saying you can drink 12 beers and get in your car and drive, get into an accident and what....blame the car?? A dog can be a tool of destruction to an irresponsible owner, much like a car can be a tool of destruction to an alcoholic! :(

Breed Specific Laws (BSL) are a very sore subject with me. I fought my local town council last year. Sadly, there were only 5-6 people at most of the meetings. People I talked to said, since it wasn't their breed they weren't worried and couldn't be bothered.

That is why we must all fight these laws. It is much easier to stop them from being introduced than to try to get them reversed. My town banned Pits and anything that our animal control thought was a pit. Pretty broad.

We dog owners have to begin sticking together, even if it is not our breed today! But, what about tomorrow.
