Can someone tell me why my boxer keeps following my little nephew all around. He is 5 years old and staying w/ us this week. Ruby will just not leave him alone!! Ruby will jump on him, walk real close to him, kinda clingy and just stares at him. Andrew is getting scared because Ruby won't leave him alone. We keep telling Andrew that he is Ruby's new toy but he doesn't think it's funny. I have discipline Ruby, but it doesn't seem to phase her. SHe just takes off and chases him again. I think it's because Ruby hasn't really been around that little of a child before and is amazed w/ his voice. What do you think?

Thanks!

Dogs are pack animals, maybe that has something to do with it b/c he is so much smaller than you? I have a six year old skin daughter and Cisco loves her to death also!

brandy does the same to our friends kids - i think they just love being near them - also brandy follows little justin (3yrs) everywhere sort of protecting him. we just recently added a puppy to the house and she does the same to tigger. if he leaves the room she follows if we say where's tigger go and get him she does - rounds him up and brings him back.

its just so cute

My female does the same thing, except she is more motherly. Like she will follow my niece around and knock her over when she thinks she is doing something wrong- she acts like my niece is one of her pups. I have no idea how to stop it except for following her all over the place. I have been told that boxers have unique relationships with children so maybe that is all it is.

My boxer does the same thing and she has plenty of little kids as I run a day care in my home. ;) If she thinks one of the kids is doing something that could bring them harm she will grab their arm in her mouth and walk them back to me. She loves to play football with the 5 year old. Yes, as I have said in other posts, boxers and children go together. :)

Star is the same with my 7 year old son. When he walks she walks. She is constantly at his side. He is the one she plays with all the time.

At the park no dog is allowed to go near him. She is far to protective. :-(

Johnny and Jenna

My skin son Johnny and Jenna have a relationship like that. He will come home from school and she will jump up on him and rap her paws around his neck a follow him around like she is trying to ride him piggy back. She isn't trying to be ugly just really really close to him. She is so sad when he leave she can't hardly stand herself. She will lay one the couch and he will lay on her to watch TV or romp together... they are great together.

Back to School Blues?

We recently adopted our brother's boxer Harley, she is 5 years old. I have a 9 year old skin daughter. We have had her not quite a month now, and she has us all wrapped around her little paw. When my daughter started school last week, she paced the floor and was in and out the door, whining and wimpering all day. We thought maybe she was sick or going into heat. this went on all week, then over the weekend she ended up throwing up a very large amount. Is this because of my daughter going to school...or is she possibly getting herself ready to go into heat?
Concerned,
Misty

Dogs often see children, especially smaller children, as littermates. You as Leader need to redirect the dog's energies and attention to something more appropriate.
