Boxer Pal
Hello,

To all of you happy Boxer owners out there... I have read up on boxers and am now determined that it is the right companion for us...

Although I have no children of my own, I do have a total of 14 nieces and nephews under the age of 12 and I'm closest to my sister who has a 4 year old, excuse me 4 1/2 year old ;), and a newborn...

would you agree with what I've read that they are amicable with children and gentle strangers, visitors?

Boxers are great with children in my experience, although I wouldnt let any child play with any dog unsupervised.

I am sure if you do a search at the top of the page you will find many threads regarding this topic

I haven't posted here in a very long time. Just haven't had time, so I guess it's good that I saw your post. This site has ONLY pictures, but pictures speak a million words. My own baby is on there. Pharaoh only grew up around children he met on his walks in the park. He absolutely adores them and they can hit, punch, ride, him he doesn't care. Boxers are known for their affinity and protectiveness of children.

Let me know what you think.

We got Wagner before we had kids and we made sure that he was exposed to children on a regular basis so that he would be used to it. We also played with him at times like a child would, pulling on his ears and his legs, just to get him used to it as we knew we would have kids in the future. Now we have a little one (too little to interact with the dog), but I have the utmost confidence that Wagner will be a great dog around him. The worst I've seen so far is just Wagner's plain clumsiness.

I picked this breed for exactly that reason. I wanted a tough looking dog that was the ultimate family dog that loved kids. I wanted a dog for protection of my house, of me and my family. But, I also wanted a dog that would play with my kids (to be) and not want to eat them smashicon

Kahlua loves kids and every time she sees them from far away at the park, she wags her tail like crazy or sits and will not budge so she can watch them. I don't let her go up to them too much unless the parents ask because I don't feel it is right, but I wish I knew some little kids for her to play with. I feel bad that she will probably be an old girl by the time we have kids old enough to play with her. I am trying though! :p

Rowdy is great with kids. I've seen him with strange kids all over him and he just sits there with a confused look on his face. The only thing that even remotely concerns me is that when a child runs from Rowdy that he chases them down and pushes them from behind in a playful manner or jumps on their shoulders from behind and licks their ears. My kids don't run from him so that's not a problem. I only worry that some kid is going to get scratched up or bruised while playing in my back yard. Most of the "scaredy kids" go straight to the trampoline, which has a safety net and is guaranteed to be dog free.
