Boxer Traits

I have to say that with all that has been mentioned I have little to add. My Boxer definitely lifts my spirits when needed and I could never imagine him not being around when I get home. The one thing that he has started as of late is he hates my motorcycle helmets. He is seven months old and the helmets have always been around but as of late if there is one where he can see it he will bark and grunt at it till someone moves it away. I have several motorcycle helmets and also other type of helmets but the motorcycle helmets are the only ones that bring about this type of behaviour, regardless of which motorcycle helmet it is.

Doesn't understand chairs!!

I have enjoyed reading all about our boxer's traits! One that Diamond has done ever since he was a little pup...

If there is a chair with arms and he wants to sit in it, he doesn't just hop up, he has to climb and manuver his way through the arm hole struggling the whole time! I tried to teach him how it would be easier, but, nope he didn't like it like that-he likes challenges I guess!! I would just stop what I was doing and just watch him-it was so cute and funny!!:D

Oh, he is also very jealous-anyone experienced that? No one else lives with us, but when my boyfriend comes over, Diamond doesn't like it that he can't have me all to himself. Diamond will give him a look like, "I should be sitting on the couch by my mom, and YOU should be sitting on the floor!" He goes crazy till I give him lots of attention!

My Luca sleeps on his back, farts, snorts, snores, and everything else you mentioned. The other thing he does is every single day he gets into this barking frenzy which drives me crazy. Is this a trait within their breed?

Barking Question

Yes, I'd like to know as well. I've heard that boxers aren't generally the barking type but Bailey barks at everything that moves. I can understand when someone is on the property but even if someone just walks by on the sidewalk or across the street, he starts. And on the weekend we were at the lake, any time a boat went by or he heard voices at the next cottage, he'd start. It was really starting to drive everyone nuts. I'll ask the question in the training category as well.

Fenway usually only barks at the door bell or if someone is in our yard. BUT....he has started storming the front door lately when someone rings the bell and running onto the front porch, pretty scary to strangers and a pain for us. Anyone else have this problem and know how to stop it. I bought him a choke collar today and am going to see if that works but he is pretty bullheaded so am not sure. I would welcome any suggestions.

Complete OPPOSITE!!!

Ooooh. That's strange. A Boxer who barks at EVERYTHING. I haven't seen to many posts on Boxers who bark. As a matter of fact I was actually worried that my Dear Buc was a Mute, as he NEVER barked until the week after his first Birthday, and then, he did one big WOOF, seemed to have scared himself, and now ONLY growls. (even that is a rarity, but for some strange reason, he ALWAYS growls at the next door neighbors). But still....NO BARK.

Good Luck in finding an answer to your question. I'm noticing that although Boxers seem to share many traits, they are ALL individuals and extremely how do I say...un-dog like. Sounds like you got a Boxer who really likes to March to the Beat of his own Bark!!!:p

Commonand Uncommon at the same time

Absolutely right! They seem to have some very common threads, but are individual as to how they react to their own home and environment! Our Dempsey is the worst barker at strangers, and at annoucing who's come to the door, but I think he picked it up from our cantankerous Scottie and might not have been so bad if she hadnt taught him the ropes. D. discovered himself in a hand-held mirror this week, it was scary to him, he definately saw the big bad dog there, our Scottie just sniffed the glass. Boxers are wonderfully intelligent, and awful human!

My two boys have different traits one loves to play in water and the other hates to be in water. They are both abot 90 punds ad they want you to hold them when you are sitting down like they weigh only 5 lbs.

Is this normal?

:D We have a 5 month old male (Tyson). We've been told that Boxers don't like water. Well, Tyson not only LOVES the pool (he'll go for a swim even if we're NOT outside playing with him. We now have him diving to about 4 feet to retrieve a toy. We're beginning to think he's a lab instead of a boxer!! Are they supposed to act like this, and will it last as he gets older? He's way too much fun to have this not last!

Great for you and Tyson! That is awesome. Fenway HATES water and with Fraizer she is too young to tell. I would Love it if Fen were more like Tyson in his love of water.
