Boxer Traits

I saw one reply about their Boxer grabbing your leg with both paws and hanging on. Mine does that but it almost seems like she's trying to "get intimate". At first we thought this was weird (especially for a 4 1/2 mo. FEMALE!!) but I think it's just a boxer play thing. Is this true?

I think that is a boxer trait, my girly does that, and she has never shown any forms of trying to get "intimate". She usually does it when i'm playing with her, it's so funny :D . She also loves to have her tummy rubbed so when you lay on the floor, she will stand up right above you, almost like that is the reason you are laying down, just to rub her tum.
I think she thinks she is the queenkingicon all my roommates don't help it though, they spoil her just as much as my family and i do.

I think this behavior is something you may want to discourage. While you may think it's cute @ 4-1/2 months, it won't be as she gets older.

Good point. A 65 Lb "puppy" hugging your leg might get a bit tiresome.

Another problem is her OBSESSION with eating (or trying to eat)the cat litter. Is there any way to stop this behavior, other than moving the litter box out of reach (not really an option!)?

Hi again.....@ 4-1/2 months, she is bound to get into everything in sight. I used to think my boxer was part goat. My boxer loved and still loves rabbit droppings. He not only eats them [yuck!] but rolls in them. OMG.....it is so gross....he always needs a bath afterwards......the smell can clear a room.

The more you get upset about her obsessions, the more she will think it is a game. No reaction is the best reaction. If possible, keep the litter box in an area where she can't get to it at all.

Good luck!

Eating litter box contents is not just a boxer trait.. My niece's female lab also does it.. My vet suggested it's because when they have puppies, the dogs eat the pup's feces to hide the scent from preditors and it's just instinct to do it.. my daughter has the cat's litter box in the cat's "safe room" behind a babygate.

Good to know. Also, how do you stop your dog from eating small rocks and dirt? We've tried to clear out as much as we can but, eventually, she manages to find a small rock here and there. Coincedentally, she's at the vet right this minute getting a series of bariums (??) to remove a handful of rocks in her stomach. We try are hardest to monitor where she is, but it's impossible to keep an eye out at all times.

Bo my 4 year old boxer has these traits
sighs

runs like mad after coming in from outside for 5 min.

plays football with my son (chasing him and tackling him with his paws wrapped around my sons legs.)

Tackles my son and steals his socks off his feet.
(then runs around the chouch as my son chases him)

uses his paws cat like

does the woo woo song thing

makes us laugh all the time
:D :D :D

That is a very good question. I had a terrier that used to eat small rocks & other garbage and my cat eats threads (she cost me $300 at the vets) The vet suggested that for the rock problem to have a spray bottle handy with "Ivory dish soap solution in it" and spray the stones with it.. they taste horrible so the dog won't want it.. but that would have worked for me if she only chose one area to "graze" in, but she wasn't choosy and we had a big yard.. :( I did spray some areas and she never went near those areas again, so if your puppy uses 1 or 2 places to graze, it might work for you :)

I know my daughter's boxer hates the hose, so maybe if you let her have it with the hose (or a spray bottle of water) everytime she even thinks of looking at the stones, she may stop (like Pavlov's dogs) :D
