Boxer Traits

I haven't known many boxers in my life so im not sure about what is common, but I have a 1 1/2 yr old female brindle.
I used to hate dogs, but now i hang out with everyone i can.
Some of gurly's traits are:
1. I have her trained to give kisses and hugs whenever i want one. and now she greets me with them for minutes at a time whenever i get home.
2. She also will get rowdy in the yard and just run around for no reason in particular as soon as i let her out the door.
3. she likes to play keep away. its her favorite game........i throw her the ball, she rectrieves it and i get to chase after her to get it back, although i can just say 'drop it' and she puts it down.
4. She loves all animals. She would never want to kill one.....all she wants is to play. unfortunatly my other animals don't realize this. she usually makes the 'woo woo' noise when she wants to play.
5. i think its a dominance thing.........if im laying on the floor she will come up and stand over top of me.
6. she seems to have this thing for sticking her ass in my face. not on my face (eww) but right in front of it. especially if we are in bed. she lays with her head the other way (i think b/c she doesn't like to be breathed on)
7. she snores.......LOUD
8. she gets jealous if i try to play with another dog and tries to steal my attention.
9. she follows me everywhere
10. she wakes me up by stepping on my face and hair.
11. she tends to stick her bottom in the air when she plays with a bone.
12. she twitches in her sleep as if she is dreaming about running.
13. she grew up with a pit bull that taught her to growl really mean sounding when she plays with other dogs. even tho it sounds scary she is really just playing.
14. when she knows she is bad she lays down and shows her belly and does a funny licking action with her tongue until i tell her its ok.
15. she likes to get filthy dirty by running through mud puddles.

I could go on some more but i'll stop b/c now i realize these traits aren't all common, but this thread is interesting b/c u can read what other boxers personalities consist of. all dogs are unique and that's why we love them. especially boxers, because their personalities are very much like people's.

Boxer Pal
Porter

Porter is our second boxer. Our first boxer, J.D., crossed the bridge in October of 2000. It was the worst day of our lives. He was 10-1/2 years old. He was such a joy to behold - more human than not. I swear he was a person in fur. We grieved for 6 months after he was gone and finally got another. Porter is now a year old. He snorts, sleeps on his back with legs straight up, actually smiles all the time, rests of head on any part of your body available. His favorite thing is getting me up in the morning and watching me in the shower, licking the water as it runs down the glass doors. He can walk for miles and never gets tired. He leans his head on the windowsill while we are outside gardening. He actually fell asleep on the windowsill waiting for us to come in. So dedicated and patient. He, too, loves zooming like crazy around the yard like someone is after him. He keeps all the critters out!....even the birds. Don't mess with HIS yard! BTW - he is fawn with lots of white flash....he has a white diamond on the back of his head.

JJPUP

Boxer Pal
My J.J has to have his head on my neck when we go to sleep. I just relized what the woo woo song was, my pup does it all the time. It is so cute. My puppy does everything listed. God love him he is my baby. I love him so much. he is my pride and joy. i thought that my puppy was the only one that did all of this. Well it is nice to know that my puppy is not weird. Well i need to post some pictures. My pup is 5 months old.lovicon wackicon

I'm new here. I also own 2 boxers, male and female.
I love to get home, and see 2 pretty crazy boxers waiting for me. When i put 1 step in the room, they jump all over me.... and not to mention my wet face afterwards :D

YES!!!!!!! Thats my kind of dog !!

Sera's Mom

Boxer Booster
The funniest thing about Sera is the way she wakes us up in the morning. Both our girls stay in their "bedroom" at night--our enclosed back porch. If my husband is the first one up and lets the girls in, Sera jumps on our bed and gently licks my face once or twice just to say "I'm here, Mom, it's time to get up!". If, on the other hand, I'm the first up and the girls get into our bedroom, Sera jumps all over her daddy's head, kissing, lunging, playing and generally waking him up whether he's ready or not! The "woo-woo" sound all other dogs make is what we call talking. If we give Millie any attention, Sera will let us know she's not happy by talking to us....and getting right in between us and Millie. And I believe the kidney bean everyone is talking about is what we call her "crab walk". She's been doing that since she was a tiny puppy. First time we took her to the vet, she started doing that walk. The vet told us it looked like Sera had read up on being a Boxer. She is our pride and my heart. I'd like nothing better than to sell our house, buy and farm and raise nothing but Boxers!

Owning a Boxer changes your life. All of a sudden you become part of this SECRET WORLD that you never knew existed. Gypsum is my first Dog-- and the beginning of something wonderful.

She's 1 yr. and 3 months, and the older she gets the better. I thought I loved her at 7 weeks, but now I find just how much that love has grown. Her traits seems pretty typical of a boxer. Reading through all the responses makes me feel that she is just a typical boxer. Which is awesome! Someone had mentioned the rough play, and being misunderstood by other animals... that's a big one for us. One trainer put it so elequently.." Life is a bowl of cherries for Gypsum... one big game". Although, other dogs don't seem to understand the body slamming and growling are harmless, that's just how she plays. We've been forced to be very careful with who she plays with. These are the sweetest, most loving dogs I have ever been around.. And the most misunderstood. Gypsum comes with me everywhere, on planes, in the car, walking. And I find that people who have had boxers before, or currently have them, become your automatic friend. :D I love it! (it's the secret club thing again) On the other hand, people who aren't familiar with boxers.. will go as far as to cross the street when we're walking. If they only knew. One final trait that no one has mentioned is "Knowing other Boxers". It's the most amazing thing when she sees another boxer, or a dog that is a Boxer mix. The are automatic friends! Gypsum tends to get a little pushy around dogs, she's the alfa! But when it comes to another boxer, she's got nothing but hugs and kisses for them. They know their own breed. The smartest, best looking dogs I've ever known.
