There is so much more to breeding than just putting a male and female together. This topic has been covered in depth many times, even recently. If you want to be an asset to the breed, only breed good representatives of the breed that have been health tested. To do otherwise is a dis-service to the dogs, breed, and the people who get the puppies. With boxers exploding in popularity, more people will be breeding in the dark, totally unconcerned abut pedigree, quality or health; just supplying demand and making a buck. Don't add to that segment of the population. Right now, boxers are poised to follow on the heels of German Shepards (who were totally ruined by popularity) and more recently, the Rottweiller.
responsible breeders sell with conditions to make sure their dogs don't end up part of this cycle. Pets are sold with limited registrations on breeding contracts. Show dogs are more expensive and sometimes come with contracts that control breeding until certain stipulations are met (like showing the dog and/or earning a CH). If your breeder sold your pup without these contracts, or charged a flat fee, or more for females than males, then they are not in the ranks of what we would call responsible breeders. Many folks in boxer clubs started out with dogs like that, and when they became more educated about the breed, neutered them, (and some started over with better dogs. ) Life is a learning process, and the boxer will benefit and hopefully survive this latest popularity swing mostly intact with the help of education.
