I am here once again begging for prayers and positive thoughts for my little girl Maddie. I am writing this as I sit here in the hospital with my girl laying next to me. As some of you might remember Maddie was diagnosed back in August with an Insulinoma and surgery was unsuccessful, the tumor still remains on her pancreas.

We had to rush Maddie to the hospital late tuesday evening when all of the sudden she became very weak and pale. She jumped onto our bed and her gums became white, needless to say I started to freak out. Her hematocrit (PCV) when we arrived was 25%, not good. This number should be between 36-60. Five hours later we rechecked it and dropped to 21%. Throughout the day, it continued to dropped and her color was really bad. Maddie is white so she is usually pretty pink every where you look (around the eyes, skin, ears, etc.) She looked like a ghost she was so pale, had no color to her ears, skin, or eyes. She was so weak and did not look good at all. The doctors suspected she had a bleed somewhere internally and thought it was most likely in her GI tract as her stool was dark in color. By around 11pm weds (Christmas Eve) Maddie's PCV dropped to 13%. So around midnight (now Christmas Day) my little girl started to receive a blood transfusion. I couldn't believe that 24 hours earlier, she seemed fine and now I was giving my baby a blood transfusion to try to save her life. The transfusion took 4 hours and she tolerated it pretty well. We were concerned about her having a reaction to it as she is VERY sensitive to everything (drugs, meds, etc.) Right after the transfusion ended, she started to have a reaction, her temp spiked to 106.2 degrees and she began to vomit. Two hours post transfusion we rechecked her PCV, it was obvious she was already destroying the blood we transfused her with. This was not good and if this does happen usually does not happen this soon afterwards. She has been in pretty critical condition since tuesday evening. We are hopping the transfusion bought a little time so her own body can kick in and start to regenerate itself. As of 10pm tonight her last PCV was at 27% which is still not great but is ALOT better than 13% (so I was happy with this number.) I am praying that her body is trying to regenerate itself and pray her PCV remains at least at this level or even better yet, starts to climb into the normal range. I get so nervous every time we recheck her PCV for fear of it dropping again. This will be my fourth night sleeping here at the hospital with her, laying right next to her in the run ( a big cage.) I have gone home for a few hours each day to shower, eat and see my daughter. This was NOT how I imagined spending Christmas, it was really hard, it sucked, and I cried all day. This more than likely was going to be Maddie's last Christmas because of the tumor on her pancreas, I was looking forward to the memories and making sure she would enjoy it. It's sad to think she had to spend her last Christmas in the hospital so sick. The question now is why is she bleeding into her GI tract. They think it is more than likely due to an ulcer (possibly caused by the pred she is on, however it is a very low dose so not as likely) OR because of a tumor somewhere in her GI tract. The only way to know for sure is to either scope her or do an exploratory. She is not in any shape right now to even think of doing either. Right now she is a lot pinker and brighter than she was yesterday. She still becomes very pale every time I walk her outside or anytime she exerts herself, which is not good. IF her PCV remains as it is right now, she might be able to go home tomorrow which will be nice however, I am very nervous about taking her home since she declined so rapidly before. I am also scared because if it is a tumor, she can/will can bleed again. I keep waiting for her to take another turn for worse, I am so scared. We are by no means out of the woods yet with her but today has been her best day since tuesday night when this horrible nightmare began. I honestly thought we were about to lose her, she was in BAD shape. Oh, and all of this is probably totally unrelated to the tumor on her pancreas........something new we get to worry about and deal with!!!

So please keep my little girl in your thoughts and prayers. She has been through soooooo much these past few months it breaks my heart. She is the best girl, so innocent and full of love. I can't lose her yet!!!!

I will keep everyone updated!!!

Dear Carrie, I just logged on and am so saddened to hear that Maddie is in such dire straits. You, your family and your darling girl are in my prayers, and I send out loads and loads of healing and positive vibes to her. Months have gone by without any updates and that meant good news and that she was hanging in, a very good thing. But she has never been far from my thoughts. You both have fought so hard together, both of you are brave. I hope and pray for the very best. (((HUGS)))
