Relax

I don't understand you people sometimes. All of you are full of very useful information, which is wonderful, but many of you never get to the question asked. I don't remember asking about if it was ok to leave a boxer outside or not, I was asking about barking in general. None of you know my situation and never will but you ASSUME the worst which is just wrong. I would never do anything to hurt my dog in any way. All of you who spoke about barking, Thank you! For everyone else, just relax!

Well, you did ask about barking once before, and got a lot on on-topic replies, also in this thread a lot of people commented about barking. There's a huge variation in boxers - some bark, some don't.

One big factor in why a dog barks is boredom/loneliness. If I'm doing anything at home that doesn't directly involve Diesel, he will sit beside me, stare at me, and bark until he gets some attention. If you are planning on leaving him alone outside 50% of the time (as you said you were planning to do in your post), I'd say chances are good that he might bark while outside. Unless perhaps you've left something out and he won't be alone, or you'll be outside with him, or something else mysterious. We only know what you tell us - and if you've read many posts here you'll know that we all fiercely love our boxers and treat them supremely well. Boxers are typically not considered "outdoor" dogs, so it's not surprising that a number of people immediately said "not sure that's a really good idea".

Good luck - hopefully yours will be a quiet one!

Again I agree they are indoor dogs and should be kept in. Max and I take walks go to the park and play downstairs. As far as barking he seldom barks unless he sees a squirrel or we roughhouse. Good luck with your pup.

...I was asking about barking...

The short story is my Boxer doesn't bark very often.

The long story is->
My Daisy girl is almost 2yrs and only barks when she should.

My wife has two toy poodles that bark at everything... when left alone even for 20minutes they won't stop barking at all. Daisy has not adopted this anoying behavior... she'll always take a look when the poodles start barking but she doesn't chime in... UNLESS there is cause for alarm.

When Daisy does bark I know their is a strange person or animal in the Yard and a threat may exist, if nothing else to my garbage cans!

Good luck with your new boxer and keep us posted.

Two VERY important thoughts!!

I hope that you continue to share in the MOST IMPORTANT thing that everyone on this board has in common, and that is a LOVE FOR BOXERS and CRAZY foolicon boxer stories!!!

I look forward to hearning the outcome to bark or not to bark that is the question! gradicon

I think a good supply of lots of entertainment is key if you only have one, and figure out how to keep your little one occupied for 15-20 min after you leave the house for work that way they never know you went missing! That was when Tyson made the most noise!

My guy doesn't bark much either!

I'm so glad I found this thread. I was beginning to worry that Jag rarely barks. He only barks when he wants to play and when I run the evil "vacuum cleaner", for some reason the vacuum must die!
He barks under his breathe at night when he hears something outside that he cannot see and gives a low growl as if to say, "Mom don't worry I have it covered", :) but otherwise he doesn't bark when people come to the door or other dogs bark.
We don't mind really, we really don't want him barking for no reason.

Oh and my opinion on our Boxers being outdoors is, they should not be left outdoors at all. They are too people orientated and I believe Jag would be insulted if we left him outdoors where he couldn't come for a hug or lovin at his leisure.

Clank, I´ve trained Buster to bark on command. Then I can get him to bark or stop barking when I want him to. Sometimes he just lets out a little wwwwfff, and sometimes a real big strong bark.... I give a sign which is patting near my heart with the palm of my hand. This has also learnt him to look up at me when I am giving a command as to see what is coming next....
Good luck with your puppy!!!!/ Vicky

It varies between dogs...just like kids they all have different characteristics!
Sasha is a barker to the extreme...she is SO protective she feels the need to alert us of anything that is not part of her normal surroundings ie; other people, strange cars, foot traffic in front of the window and her favorite is the doorbell....which drives us nuts since so many tv show/commercials have them ringing in them!! Telmar is not a barker, but when Sasha barks...he jumps right in with NO clue why he is barking!!
This board is wonderful and i truly feel very educated on boxers now...i have learned AMAZING amounts from reading on here....please don't take 'to heart' or feel too judged...most of us are just in love with our dogs and want you to feel the same way. That being said...be careful about the outside thing...i have often ended up in tears over a variety of disasters that have occured while dogs were outside (being watched or not)....there are some terrible tragedies ("tannerstheman" being the most recent....her two babies were killed when some horrible person threw bottles filled with antifreeze over her fence and it was ingested)....and so sad to think 'if only' afterwards!! Most of us treat these dogs as if they are our children....i know i do!
I lived in Charlotte for 15 years and miss it like crazy....

Well, I think my dogs are the minority here. They bark all of the time and at anything! There's a little dog accross the street that doesn't even have a yard (fenced that is) and loves to tease my girls by running up and down the fence and in return, the girls bark and really raise cain over her. (needless to say I don't like that dog very much!)

One of my girls has been a barker since she was a puppy. She'll literally bark at you until you throw the toy. Ignoring her only makes her bark more. I would have to say she's not your typical boxer though. Quite original if I do say so myself.

Good luck with your puppy, and if you figure out a way to get him to STOP barking, please let me know! I need the advice =)
