Let's not jump on Clank yet regarding leaving his dog 50% outside, let's let him explain what that means... like leaving him outside when he is at work, which many people on this board do.

I do want to caution you though Clank that leaving a puppy outside without supervision will surely bring you some trouble of one kind or another. I've only left my two out in the yard after they've matured and proven that they are not jumpers and diggers. Plus I've spent the money to put in things like a digging pit and other toys to distract them out there.

As for barking, most boxer don't bark like some other breeds do, but if you leave them in the yard too long unsupervised, they will start barking at whatever that may cross the yard or walk by outside the fence... hope this helps.

BooBoo diggying pit...would love to know more about that?? Great idea, Sadie's not a digger so far, How did your dogs learn the difference between the flower beds and the digging pit? really great idea. Holly

i agree with this, let clank explain.......

i dont leave niko out at all, unless im out with him. it was my understanding this board is here for people to get information on boxers and stuff, not jumped on when they post a question about something. give clank a chance to explain.

why dont we start with answering his question and maybe educating him a little.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Holly,
We built a dog run, and inside of it there is a 4'x4'x4' deep pit lined with concrete blocks., then we filled it with 7 yards of fine sand. We bring the dogs in, put some toys and treats in the sand for them to find and they've been liking that place every since. They actually like to sit there and sun tan when they are done playing because it reminds them of being at the beach...

Jake will be 2 in February and I've only heard him 'bark' a few times (if you can call it that)...only when he get's really spooked or hears something outside at night, you'll get a 'woof'. The neighbors dogs bark like crazy and Jake just wags his nub. But I must say if you let him out in the yard to pee and arent' waiting at the back door to let him back in, Jake will let out 1 real 'bark' to let you know he wants in - and now!

I agree 100%. If I was the person that created this post I would feel reluctant to ask another question after being "jumped" on. Especially if i was somewhat new to the board.

Vegas never barks, unless he sees a bag rolling across the yard or somthing. Or a let me in bark. I my experience I have not met a boxer that constantly barks like some other breeds do.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck with your new puppy Clank.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm a little too sensitive to the idea of leaving a boxer outside for long periods of time (like all day) ..but I guess I feel strongly against it because it's winter here and quite cold, so when I think of leaving a dog outside who only has one thin coat of hair in 30 degree weather I think of cruelty ! I guess for those people who live in a warm part of the country year round, leaving a boxer outside all day (as long as its not too hot) wouldn't be the same as it would be in a cold part of the country...besides the fact that leaving them outside in any kind of weather could still wind up a bad situation if they get into something harmful, jump over the fence, or are stolen...
I don't mean to be judgemental of those who do leave their boxers outside...I would rather educate than judge !

:)

Personally I don't think anyone has "jumped" on the OP...
The OP asked for our thoughts and I think that's what they are getting...
I've learned on here (and other boards) that you don't always hear what you want to hear when you ask for others "thoughts" ;) ...

I believe all of us here at BW love the boxer breed and have some very strong opinions on this wonderful breed...and when it comes right down to it we all want what's best for the boxer ! :)

Ciscobxr

Boxer Insane
Cisco is 7 months and the only time he barks is when he is after my kitty. smashicon
Now my last two boxers barked anytime anyone was near my fence. I guess they thought I was the guard of the house though, b/c they never barked when someone was at the door.

Super Boxer
My two bark. Zeus barks when he hears the door bell or at night when he hears something he cant see. Sometimes he will bark when he is playing with Isis. Isis barks alot when she plays. I think thats because she is a puppy.
