Bad Mouthing The Breed Again!

Recently, when I was looking for a place to board Rita and Munson for an overnight in another state I called a daycare/boarding facility that was very highly recommended by vets in the area. This facility told me that they were no longer accepting boxers. When I questioned them further they indicated that since the breeds popularity has taken off within the last couple of years there are so many BYB's who are not controling for temperment. Further, that the breed (because of its history) needs to be watched that these breeders do not ruin the entire breed by allowing these undesirable traits to crop up (again). They also said that almost every boxer that had been in their facility within the last 8 months was aggressive in some way.

I am terrified of this in that I do not want to have problems like this for years to come. I am so afraid that this mentality will become the general public opinion and we will all have to deal with insurance and other issues. I not only get angry when I hear about this type of thing, I get anxious and nervous.

I am afraid of this and I think that we all need to not only stand up for the breed, but we need to do so in a well-informed, well-educated manner. It is important for all of us to be calm, yet assertive when it comes to defending the breed. I do not want people to blow me off because they feel like I am aggressive (just like my crazy dog). Anyway, I think a very well written and informative letter that genuinely strives to inform would be an excellent idea. I am not many things, but being a doctoral student kind of requires that I be a decent writer in order to get anyone to publish my work. I would be thrilled to be involved in any letter writing campaign and maybe we can even post a draft here. Collectively we can all send something to our local papers. Maybe I am going too far, and this post is too long. So... that's all I guess.

Yeah to your DH!!! RIL needs to wash her mouth out with soap! I can't believe people sometimes! It's the people like her that don't have fun in life! She needs a big slobbery kiss form all the boxers just after a huge gulp of water! If there anything like Oskar she'll have a nice soaking wet face! Then again she doesn't deverve it!

We have 2 boxers, and they turn on us before we get to the bed. We have to run and beat them to it so we can have some space. lol
That woman needs to be taught a few things about our babies.

Mine where confused for pitts before :(, I took them both with me to a pet store.. (not inside) While bf was inside buying stuff I stayed outside with them.. They where trying on their new harness/seatbelt things.. And this man in another car next to me said "Wow those are some nice Pitts" ... I was like Umm they are boxers.. He said "Well same thing" Then he said this was the nicest type of pitt hes seen in a while...
Its like I just couldnt convince him that a pitt bull and boxer are two completely different breeds! Plus he had a little girl with him in the car and he wouldnt let her pet them since he said that those dogs just look nice but arent nice :( I was like fine whatever I give up.. I wasnt in the mood to explain my dogs to him...smashicon

I am nervous about the BYB's and ruining the breed as well. I also read an article that people are now breeding pitts with boxers to increase their size. I hope this does not become a problem since it WILL give boxers a bad name too.

I have never heard of home owners insurance policy's not covering for a boxer. I have heard it for pitts, rotti's and shepards. I hope boxers are not added to the black list the insurers have as well.

As far as RIL goes, the only solution for ignorance is education and maybe you can show her some web sites like this to show her that boxers are great, fun-loving dogs. I would try and enlist the local paper to write a story since you mentioned boxers increasing popularity in your town. Good Luck!

reminds me of a lady who picked up her dog and crossed the street one day when I was walking Rocky. She asked me if he was a pittbull and ofcourse I had to say NO...Pittbulls have lock jaws and you can tell my the sides of their jaws and boxers have jowels. Which the shape of their mouths were breed for the hunters long ago so they wouldn't do to much damage to the prey.
I also informed her my little shitzu/pekeinese/JRT mix (which i may add is only 17 lbs and has biten us before) would take the fingers off of ya first before my boxer would. I wonder if it's the same lady lol????

Actually, Pitbulls and Boxers have a lot of simililarities, but they also have a lot of differences.
I've had a few Pits in my life and a few Boxers, and I have to say, those breeds are by far the sweetest dogs I've ever come to meet.
Also, both breeds are furry clowns, loving to make you laugh in any way, shape, or form. Both are very cuddly, loyal, lovealble, and inteligent, too. And both boxers and pitbulls become very attatched to their owners.
They are also very quick learners, energetic, and fun. Also, although people who have never owned a pitbull or a boxer disagree with me ignorantly, both of the breeds usually LOVE children.
Last, but not least, both the Boxer and Pit have bad reps.

The main thing that differs between the two dogs are that Pits have a hard time getting along with other dogs or animals and Boxers usually do.
(They're are other differences of coarse, but thats a big one)

But about the RIL, I hate people like her. They make me so angry. I have two dogs that are supposedly "vicious" breeds (Boxer and Wolf Hybrid), but really they are the sweetest to me and everyone else, except if they are putting me or my kids in danger.
