I'm north of Pittsburgh, and I think you are right about you having it worse out east. We never really had a problem with them over here until the last few years. I used to take Toby hiking almost every single day in summer at Moraine State park and he never EVER got a tick there. A week or two ago I tried to take Gus on the same trail I always took Toby on and within 20 minutes (we didn't even get 1/2 mile before I saw ticks on him and turned around) he was COVERED and I picked probably 30 crawling ones off him when we got back to the parking lot. I also had 4-5 crawling up my own legs too. *shudder* We won't be going back there anytime soon!

They give me the heebie jeebies too, ever since I was trucking with Toby and a few hours after leaving a truck stop where I had walked him I found one embedded behind my knee. I stopped the truck and woke up the co-driver and made her get it out RIGHT NOW. Then I went to the dr. and made him give me a lyme test even though there was almost zero chance of me having it. haha. I'm a little more laid back these days, I've found others on me since then but if I'd had one in my EAR I think I'd be a little more freaked by them! You poor thing!!

30 ticks!?!?! AH! I think that would send me into a panic attack lol. I can handle creepy crawlies- but ticks and thousand leggers are on a whoooole difference level. Ick!

Well, I bought a flea and tick comb after work yesterday lol.

My brother tells me thousand leggers eat bugs. I have them in my basement so I made a deal with them: they stay in the cellar and I won't kill them. One foot inside the house though...!

Or maybe she's been online and have read all of Raine's posts

To be honest when I saw her standing in that picture my first thought was ....TROUBLE!!!

Short story about seeing Raine for the first time....
There were two litters that were two days apart. The breeder had finally put all of them together. They were all so cute and snuggly. After a bit of play they all piled on top of each other and went to sleep.
Raine stayed out of the area the other 8 puppies were and found her own spot to hang out in. All by herself!
I knew then that she was going to have an independent streak. I wouldn't trade her for the world but I sure as heck wish she wasn't so independent with her thinking!

I know you decided on using the name Thora again but the first picture of her you posted I exclaimed.....ADORABLE!! and then I shortened it to Dora....close to Thora. At any rate I won't be surprised if you don't call her Thora-Dora! We all make up silly names for them along the way and don't always use their true name.

Congrats. I am so over the top happy for you.

Susi- when I saw the pic of her standing up, I just went "We're gonna have our hands full with this one, I just know it!" She just has that ringleader look to her. I'm up for the challenge :) Tuff was such a lovey-dovey guy... very relaxed and calm and just wanted to be as close to his people as possible. He rarely ever got into trouble and was just an all-around "good boy." I'll admit, I think that his personality is what made me fall head over heels for the breed, but I've been around enough of them to see that they all have a similar light in them that is just unmatched, no matter how varied their personalities are. Was it you that said something about some dogs being so ornery and sweet because they won't be here very long so they just love us that much harder? I think you may have been on to something there. My parent's last chocolate lab Sammy was the same way- just a sweet little boy who wanted nothing more than to be at your side. He died a tragic death at only 4 years old- a very sad loss for all of us. Now my mom has Zach (another chocolate) and he is just a dickens! He's the complete opposite of Sammy. Sharp as a tack too- you can't get anything past him! We love them both for their unique qualities. I wouldn't be disappointed if Thora ends up just like him, or like Raine :) And when I'm pulling my hair out with frustrations over her antics, I'll be looking at you for advice, lol!

And yes, the goofy nicknames! Tuff was my hammy ham. I'm sure we will have plenty of new ones for the baby girl.
