Please stay away from the Lyme disease vaccine! The companies that make the vaccines are required to look for side effects for the first 24 hrs, however people are noticing the symptoms similar to Lyme Disease showing up in their dogs days and weeks after recieving the vaccine and they do not respond to any therapy. At least if your dog gets Lyme they can treat it. Plus the tick has to be on your dog from 12-24 hours before it becomes infected. It is safer for your dog just to make sure you check daily for ticks. Here is link to recent thread on this vaccine. http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/dog-health-issues-questions/156154-lymes-vaccine.html Take your pup with you, I'm sure your grandparents would love to meet her! Just check her carefully before you leave. (You don't want to bring any of those little critters home or have them in you car...eww.)

I'd bring her and just carefully check her afterwards to look for ticks. :) No way you will be able to leave that sweet girl at home.

Plus, it'll be a great start to her socialization. :D

My head has been spinning with all the research I've been doing on vaccines lately (see holistic forum). I'm very worried about the side effects especially knowing that the effects from the lyme vaccine are untreatable, but I'm also worried that we live in an area where lyme disease is very common here. Trying to outweigh the risks and benefits :/ If we lived somewhere where it was uncommon, I wouldn't even think about getting it.

(we're in the red)

I am still trying to make up my mind about that and Lepto. As for the others, I'm going to ask my vet about doing the puppy round, and then titers afterwards. The breeder uses a hollistic vet and doesn't do any of the non-essentials either.

oh shoot!!! look at those puppy pink paw pads!!! lovicon

I always heard people say that regarding fleas and ticks, some dogs are prone to it, some are not...

I never put frontline nor advantix, and they go play in grass and never had any bugs!
Advantix makes Snatch sick.
I wanted to use for the mosquito repellent thing.. because, oh boy, mosquitoes are mean around here!!! :(

i keep wondering if she's the ring leader for the group, looking at the first pic in the pen with the other pups. something about her expression just says "authority" lol. i bet they were plotting to spring from jail before the pic was taken.

Or maybe she's been online and have read all of Raine's posts

Looking at that first photo of the whole litter all I can say is it's a good thing I wasn't there with a big wad of cash! They are CUTE!!!

I wouldn't even worry about her getting a tick if you are going to be staying inside the pool enclosure. Mowed grass normally does not contain ticks, they like the tall grass where they can hang out at the top for easy transfer to the passing host.

(The first time I ever even SAW a tick was on a road trip to Oklahoma many years ago. I had stopped at a rest area in Missouri and taken Toby to sit in the wonderful tall grass there. As I was looking around it gradually dawned on me that I was seeing ticks on all the grass stems all around me!! EEK!!!)

I decided to not vax Gus for lyme and he has had two ticks this year already, but I check him VERY thoroughly every night and if you take them off right away like Sansal and Gatorblu said, the odds of getting a tick borne disease are rare. Vaccine side effects scare me more than treating lyme disease!

I guess I just worry because when I was a kid playing around on my grandpop's property, I ALWAYS found ticks on me and would scream my head off for a good 5 minutes each time (they scare the living daylights out of me ever since i had one living in the tuck of my ear for 2 days, eeee!). You're right though, we should be ok as long as I check her.

Corinne, what part of PA are you in? I guess they're much worse on the east where we are. I have always come in contact with the ugly little beasties because I was always an outdoorsy-tomboy as a kid, spending plenty of time romping in woods catching critters. It's kind of amazing I never had lyme disease lol.
