how long ago did your husband go through basic in S.C? That's where I'd be headed for my basic. What time of year did he go? What were his experiences there?

It was November 1995. His experience? It sucked. But it's basic and you are at it all day and into the night. It really tests you. Plus it was kinda cold. I really don't know what else, just that he was miserable and homesick.

As for recruitors, take what they say with a grain of salt. Matt actually got in trouble with his recruitor for telling a friend the truth of what you were going to go through because the recruitor says you can' t do that or NO one would join. He also was to go to Ft Campbell, KY, written in his contract. Well, he gets his orders after basic and they said KOREA!! Oh, no, he told them he had it in writting and he was going to KY. It took a bit but he did. Oh, and the part of choosing where you are stationed ( I know this is only active military, not guard), bull! He got TWO choices, not many. Oh, well. Just keep all that is being offered in mind, be prepared for the worst and you must be willing to do the worst if it comes to it.

That's true! My husband is Navy and on a submarine out here, when there are boat functions, picnics, etc., we consider those "mandatory fun".

Seriously, the Guard is a great program and does wonderful service. If you know the possiblities of what you might have to do and that is all okay, go for it. Just like everyone said, be prepared for anything. Best of luck on deciding!:)
