Apple iPods

I am probably one of the few people that doesn't own an iPod yet. I told DH that is what I wanted one for Christmas this year and last year they sold out early, so he ask me to write down which one I want and the accessories that I need. I looked on there website but really didn't understand what I am looking at. I am pretty sure that I want a Nano but which one 2GB (500 songs) or 4GB (1000 songs)? I want to be able to use it in the car since I travel around an hour each way to work 5 days a week, so how do I get it to work in the car, do I need a power source (I have a pioneer cd player in dash)? Also would like to use it at home in the kitchen or bedroom. I don't want to go to the store and speak with a sales representative because I feel like I will end up with stuff that I don't need. I am the most gullable person. Does anyone have one of these and if so what do you think of it, good vs. bad? What accessories do you think I will need? I think I understand that you can also put pictures on it too, is this right?

Any feedback would greatly appreciated.

I have a nano. I wouldn't worry about 500 vs. 1000 songs unless you're a complete music freak because I still haven't hit the 500 mark. I have a long ways to go. To listen to your ipod in the car, you can purchase an itrip. The itrip connects to the bottom of your ipod. You tune the itrip to a radio station and then turn your radio to that station and you're music will come through the radio. It's not perfect though because you can still hear some static depending on your car location. You can purchase speakers that go along with your ipod to listen to it around the house. On your computer, you'll also have all your songs on it so you can play your songs from there too. I've not purchased the speakers because I'll just crank up my computer speakers, burn my music to cds or just walk around with the ipod and headphones. There are a certain pair of earphones ipod sells where the pieces fit in your ear like ear plugs. They are wonderful and the best pair of earphones I've ever used. If you ever want to drown out excess noise, these are great to use. Hope that helps

I have the 30gb iPod. It depends on if you want to play videos/movies and view pictures in addition to listening to music. I love all kinds of music and currently have about 900 songs on my iPod. If you listen to a lot of different genres of music....country, rock, rap, oldies, etc, then I would recommend getting a larger size iPod. In my opinion, I'd rather have unused space on my iPod, then find out it's full and have to delete some songs. To each their own though........ps. I absolutely love having an iPod. I don't know what I ever did without one!!!

Oh, also, if your car has a tape deck you can buy a tape deck adapter that will play your iPod through your car stereo without the potential static that the radio transmitters have.

I do like to listen to all genres of music, but I am not really interested in watching video's, although I do like the thought of being able to store pictures on it. Unfortunately I only have a cd player in my car, so I am going to have to go with the iTrip. If the iTrip uses fm frequences can it be used in the house with a fm radio? From what I hear an iPod is just like a cell phone once you have one you can't live without it.

I have the 20gb iPod and I love it. I have not found anything that I like to use it in my car. Although a friend of mine has his adapter he said I can try since he isn't really using it. I have about 1400 songs on mine since I listen to everything! I also love making playlists on the go depending on what I feel like listening to. But I agree on the size being personal. My mom and fiance have the 2gb Nano and that size is fine since they only use it for the gym. Good luck!

The only difference ive found between my phone (it has Itunes like a ipod) and my 30gb Ipod is that I change the songs on my phone more frequently.

Ive never erased songe off my 30gb in a year or two, but my phone which holds 50 songs ive switched songs myabe 3 times in six months.

Now granted im a music freak with over 10,000 songs on my computer so my music listening be a little more than the average person/

But thats my 2 cents if you dont mind adjusting the songs on you ipod every few months (a 2gb i would think at least every 4months) go for the smaller one. I also heard back in august that Ipods were going to drop in price not sure if they have yet though

I have iTunes on my computer at home and have playlists set up and everything. Can I just transfer those playlists to the iPod? Or do I have to create new playlist and transfer one song at a time?

I don't have an Ipod, but it is true you can't be without one once you get used to it.

If you already have iTunes set up, then it's a piece of cake!! Your iPod will show up in the column on the left hand side and you can just drag your playlists/songs into it!!

If you want to play your iPod on a home stereo, you can buy a cord that plugs into the stereo. One end for the iPod and then it splits into two plugs for the stereo. Or, just get a stereo docking station for home listening.

I agree with marciafinn. I haven't found anything that works well in the car. I can't wait until it's time to trade in. Newer cars are adding direct recepticals for iPods/mp3 players right in the dashboard!!!! Yippee!!

Also, if you get a radio transmitter for your car, get one that charges your iPod while it's connected. I have a Monster brand one, and it seems to be the best I've found so far. A little on the pricey side, but IMHO well worth it.

i have a 30 gb ipod. basically, b/c i knew i could easily hit 500 songs on my ipod. if i love a song enough to put it on my ipod i don't want to take it off to put a new one on. i didn't know if i could hit 1000 (i have 890 so far) songs or not but seeing how the 4gb was $250 and the 30gb was just $50 more i went with the 30gb. plus i get to add movies and tv shows to the ipod, comes in handy on road trips and dr. visits. i didn't think i would use feature but i do all the time (keep in mind i don't have kids yet)

i agree with everyone else, i have found nothing that really works in the car. but i have never used anything with a direct hook up to the radio. my fm transmitter does not have a direct link to the car, and tranmits wirelessly to the radio and it is TERRIBLE. so i recommend something that hooks directly in.
