Anyone ever think of adding second dog of a different breed?

I love my new boxer puppy, but my heart strings pull just as hard for my pug. My husband and I love dogs. The next dog we get will be a bulldog or a blue heeler. I also like cavalier king charles spaniels. As you can tell, its not about the breed with us.

Well, I have a friend that has a yellow lab and that dog sheds more than any other I've seen before. He has wood floors and it's like huge dust bunnies of hair when you walk in there. So I've also read that goldens do not shed as bad a labs.

If I ever got another breed other than a boxer, I would have to say I would love to have a Great Dane. I hate how short their lives are, but they are just an awesome breed to me. I also have found myself becoming fond of Boston Terriers since I have been on this board. I love Conns Biggie! ( I think its hers, but if not, he is still a cutie!)

I am hoping to eventually get a second boxer but my husband would love an English Bulldog, which would be fine by me also but as I keep reminding him he would have to take care of it himself, I do 99.9% of the caring of Finnegan our boxer so if we do get a second dog and as usual I do all the work then it will be a dog of my choice so I guess it will be another boxer :p

After the boxer some other breeds I might consider would be the English Bulldog, Mastiff, Boston, and even a great dane.

Lately we've been doing a lot of research on the Bracco Italiano breed. They're a gundog, rare in North America, that points, retrieves and scents. Variety is the spice of life, and I think owning more than one breed of dog would be really neat!

I love my boxers but I'm afraid that once they are gone it will be too hard to have another. I think it would be difficult to own another boxer because I would constantly expect Rookie or Brutus to come walking through the door. I would consider a great dane, portuguese water dog, rhodesian ridgeback, grey hound, and the list could go on.

I am in love with English Bulldogs. I can't resist those wrinkles! The only thing that would stop me is that I've heared that their activity levels aren't very high and I'd be afraid Roxy would demolish the poor thing.

What we got...

Actually, we have done just the opposite. We have three dalmatians, all rescues, and then added Mush. But most of them came to us just cause they needed us and we fell in love. We really didn't think about what breed they were. It's all about my theory that they pick us, we didn't pick them. But I also think that dals and boxers are like potatoe chips. Can't just have one of either. BUT, having said all that, we will probably always have at least one dal and one boxer.
