Anyone ever think of adding second dog of a different breed?

Not to sound like a traitor or anything!! It's just that from time to time I find myself wondering about different breeds of dogs (lately the thoughts drift towards Weimaraners). I guess I'm asking because I was at a dog show this weekend, and there were so many wonderful dogs (including boxers!).
I truly do yearn to add a brindle baby to my pack (actually, I'd like 5 boxers- plain and flashy fawn, plain and flashy brindle and a white/check. Guess I need a bigger house!). I just wonder if there might be a second really awesome breed out there for me who would jive with my boxer.

I don't think you're a traitor at all. I'm also very curious about owning different breeds. Among them, the top 5 (that I may someday own) would be (in order); bullmastiffs, bulldogs, great danes, doberman pinschers, and boston terriers.

I haven't done any research on any of these except for bullmastiffs and boston terriers. When looking for a boxer, the bullmastiff was very close in being a second choice. The boston terriers, I adore. The only thing that I don't like about them is their size. I definitely prefer the bigger breeds, but I'm not closing myself to the chance that I might someday own a boston. The other breeds, I just like seeing them in person and I admire their beauty and presence.

Other breeds that I find to be very appealing to me, but doubtful that I'd ever own are viszlas, weimerainers, saint bernards, bloodhounds, shar-peis, and rhodesian ridgebacks. I'm sure I left some out, but these breeds definitely catch my eyes. Especially viszlas!! I don't know what it is about them, but I truly admire them.

I have a female mini schnauzer right now. We dognapped her from horrible people who probably haven't even noticed or cared that she was gone. She's been with us for about 8 years now. She's very stubborn and very active even though she's at least 10 years old. If you'd like to see a picture of her and Riley, I have a few of them together that I can post in my gallery.

My wife is not a fan of dogs in general, she is leery of them. She now loves Jedi (yeah, heard her say it :D ), but as I discuss getting a playmate for Jedi she gets spooked easy. I did a bunch of research and it looks like I will go with a smaller breed and I am hoping to have a Boston Terrier join our family this summer or some time after.

Pharaoh just LOVES Pugs. I love their personalities (from what I know of them) as well. Tho'...don't know if I could take all the snoring. ha!!!

We went the other way...

For me, it was the other way around. Buster is our first boxer after having a chihuahua, Boston Terriers, and a white shepherd. My fiance had border collies in the past, and is a fan of the medium sized breeds.

When my elderly chihuahua passed away, we had narrowed the field to either a boxer or a weimeraner. Buster won. (Although we occasionally see at the dog park one of the weimeraner pups from the breeder we had talked to - and he's a wonderful dog)

What can I say, I love them all! :D

I suspect that we'll be adding a non-boxer to the home someday. Mostly because of my boyfriend -- he says I have "my" dog, and he wants one that's his -- he's not crazy about boxers. He is very partial to yellow labs and golden retrievers. If it were up to me and I had to choose a non-boxer, I'd like a bullmastiff, viszla, or ridgeback, but I don't think I'll get much say. I am trying to fight the golden just on the hair issue -- I think they are beautiful and usually very sweet dogs, but I just couldn't deal with that much hair! At least my boyfriend and I are in agreement that we don't want little dogs and we definitely don't want cats! (No offense to the cat lovers out there -- we just aren't fond of them!)

This fall I almost adopted one of my dogs from surgery, she was some sort of Irish Wolfhound cross. She had the CUTEST face and was really big, but not too heavy at all, just a large frame. She was the LOVIEST dog that I've seen from the shelters this year. When I took her outside, she turned and looked at me, and jumped up and gave me the biggest hug, like she was so thankful that she was seeing the sky and feeling grass on her feet. I absolutely fell in LOVE with this dog. I wanted to ask my husband first, and by the time we went to look at her (two days later) she was adopted! I'm so happy for the family that got her. Now we are thinking of getting another Boxer!

I do love all dogs (for the most part) and cats too....BUT I have been spoiled rotten by the very best and it will be Boxers for me for the rest of my life! djk

Well I have a Rottie and a Boxer, If I were to get another dog would probably be a rescue not sure what breed. I don't know if I would get another boxer though. I may not be able to afford one once he stops chewing everything up:D
