Well Guinness started in the crate, then in our bed....and now he has his own bed on our floor...no problems transitioning. He only ends up back in bed with ous if it's going to snow ( he always knows when it's coming...)

Our babies all sleep with us, I strip my bed twice a week instead of once......just for good measure! Their just little cuddle babies, to be honest we have a king size bed , but, with the hubbie and two boxer girls, ( soon to have a little boxer boy) theres no room, we wouldnt change it for the world!!!!

Welcome fellow Floridian!

We should have another Tampa area meet.

As far as bed, my boxer sleeps in his crate at night (it's all he knows) and our Vizsla sleeps on the bed (it's all SHE knows).

I'd like to let the boxer sleep on the bed (Everynight he looks so jealous!) but our Queen bed is NOWHERE NEAR big enough! Vizsla is 75lbs and Boxer is 55lbs. Add myself @ 205 and my wife at, well, you know the rules on that.. Either way, there's not enough room.

Buying a new house this summer. Hope to get an oversized king so we can all share together. It's a great feeling to cuddle up with your fur baby and feel their happyness.

I feel like I'm missing out! When we first brought Fibber home, he cried ar night till we came and got him. We put a fleece blanket on the floor next to the bed, and then he was fine. He'll cuddle all day, except when he's eating or playing, of course, but when he settles in for the night he wants his own space, as long as he is in the same room.

I reckon the only insanity in this ol' world happens to come from those who don't have the priviledge of owning a Boxer. Personally, I can't sleep with dogs in or on the bed either, but the cuddles I get in the morning are gorgeous. Our house is filled with dog fur from one end to t'other and there's always a mad scramble to clean down the couches (super suede) when company is expected. Inside dogs just tend to shed all year round. But only in winter will Cinda get into bed with us and then down to our feet and snooze on. Zak won't be far behind her this winter coming which will be his first with us.

The first and last time I allowed Jake to sleep in my room he drove me crazy the whole time. He scratched the door, he walked around the room he blew in my face he hogged the covering... then I realised he just wanted to go to his room.

My Maxx has only been with us for about 3 weeks, but I think he knows how to get to me already. Last night before bed we let him cuddle on the bed with us before we put him in his crate (which is next to my bed). He wakes up usually once or twice a night, so last night I got up at 3 with him, took him outside for his potty & then again at 5 he woke up... as soon as he came out of the crate at 5 guess where he headed... Right up to the steps for my bed, so we gently led him outside for his potty & then brought him back in for the crate. At 6 he was up yelping again, so I got up, and said "ALRIGHT"... when I opened the crate door, there he went straight for the bed again. As soon as his little feet hit that bed he got right up next to my husband laid down & went to sleep between us. I love to cuddle with him, and really wouldn't care if he slept with us, but my husband is a clean freak, and the thought of having a dog in the bed really doesn't settle well with him.

Maya does not sleep on our bed.

But she does have a great night time routine. Every evening for a little while before bed, we watch the news and sit on the sofa. Maya curls up and snores away on the sofa with us.

When my wife and I go to bed, we head upstairs and turn out the light.

Then, up comes Maya EVERY night, to do a perimiter check. First to my side, and a lick on the hand, then to her side, and a lick on the hand, then into the guest room to make sure no one's in there, then into the bathroom to make sure no one's in there, and then back downstairs and back up on the sofa. And that's where she stays until the sun comes up.

Funny thing is, Maya always waits until the lights have been turned out to come up.

I agree, you're doomed. We started out allowing my babies to sleep between us (they were so small then), and now we can't get them to sleep anywhere else. I push them to the foot of the bed every night before I go to sleep, but I wake up in the middle of the night with them fighting to get back between us. And Tucker is getting so tall now, it's nearly impossible to sleep without getting a paw in the bum, if you know what I mean. The worst part is when I wake up to Tucker crying because Rosie is laying on top of him and he can't move. But, other than that, it's pure heaven. Enjoy your baby while he's still small enough to be a sweet little bed buddy. And go ahead and plan to buy a bigger bed! (I suggest a California King if you have more than one pup).

I love reading all these stories of bedtime madness. It's very true that you are doomed. I have four in the bed with me. The most fortunate part is that three of mine have their routine down pat. My boy gets at the bottom of the bed (head on my legs) one of my girls gets on the pillow beside mine, and the other gets in the middle of them. My new girl, however, has not found her place yet so every night she lays down right beside me with her head at my shoulder and I put my arm around her. The best part is that my three sleep all night and the only way I know that they have moved is if I have "no" covers or room on the bed. Abby is still young and sleeps till about 4 am in the morning so I think she is getting there. There have been times in the past that I have just given up trying to get room on the bed and have gone to sleep in the guest bedroom. I can't try and move all that weight around in the middle of the night. They get very "heavy" when they are sleeping.

The only time they sleep in their crates is when I have company over. They are usually ok because they are all in the same room
