So i bring tyson into the animal hospital where the vet works that i go to, to get his second round of puppy shots and get a checkup, the check up goes well, and she says he looks very healthy, than she gives him the DHLPP/C 2nd shot. he gives a little bark but seems ok, than he is just sitting on the vets table and her and i are talking and all of the sudden he makes a funny noise and we both look over and he just falls right over. so she quickly grabs him and puts her stethiscope to his chest and he looks right at me, and his eyes just roll back in his head, so she tells the assistant to get some kind of shot, she tells me he is having an alergic reaction and this shot should help him, so she gives it to him right in the butt, and it doesn't do anything so a minute later she asks for another shot that she says will boost his heart since it is slowing way down, so she gives that to him and we wait for a minute, and keeps listening to his heart, than she opens his mouth and his entire mouth is completly white and his tongue was kinda blue, at this point i totally thought he was dead, so she asks for another shot that she said was another kind of booster to get his heart going, this time she goes to his chest and and puts the shot in and pulls the plunger out and some blood goes in the needle than she pushes it in, and in like 20 seconds he starts moving again. so she keeps listenoing to his heart and than all of the sudden he throws up, and slowly he starts to look better and than he just starts itching himself, which was good because he was moving, but slowly you could see hives coming up all over his body, so the vet gave him a shot of diphenhydramine, she said it is just generic benadrile, so i stayed at the vets for another hour and a half, and they stayed open late just for me. tyson got rid of his hives about 3 hours later, the vet also gave me some diphenhydramine pills to take home with me.
quite a day, very scary, i was sure he was gone, but now he is sleeping on my lap as healthy as he was yesterday. the vet said very, very few dogs have a reaction to the shots but some do, i guess just like some babies can have a bad reaction to their baby shots, so i guess i am really glad i did some research in finding a good vet because i totally think she saved his life. she asked how he was after his first shots and i said he slept alot but didn't seem sick at all, and she said that he probably had a reaction but not a very bad one, but it did set his body up for having a really bad reaction the next time, kinda like when i get stung by a bee, every time it gets worse and worse. so i guess next time he gets his shots we are gonna do some different things.
after all was said and done i kinda thougth i was gonna get a big bill, but they gave me 20 bucks off, because they were feeling bad for me and little tyson, i think everybody in the place knew what was going on. not like the price mattered to me, i would have paid ten times this amount to keep the little guy alive.
so here is my bill in case any of you guys are wondering what all the shots where he got.
