DH and I have our 10th wedding anniversary coming up on Thursday the 30th. I feel like it should be a special one for us. We were married at ages 15 and 18 and I am really proud that we stuck out the rough times in the beginning and made it through, more in love than ever. Here is the thing...

I need advice on ways to celebrate this so special day on a really tight budget. We always have low funds on our anniversary being so close to his b-day, then Christmas. This year is the same. Plus I have to work this weekend so we can't go away or anything. I can't cook. I have done the whole "come home to candles and a blanket on the floor thing" lol.
Any ideas to help me plan a day that is special?

the one thing we ALWAYS do is to go out to a NICE! dinner. By nice, I mean a $80 dinner for two :) Every year, we also go to a new restaurant (with good reviews of course! LOL) Of course, on a tight budget you gotta plan a bit in advance. Because we dont get to do things alone much (kids, dogs, work, house, etc) we make it a special point every anniversary.

P.S. on our 10th - I told DH had had to by me an anniversary ring too :D I started in on him at our 9th anniversary! LOL

Congrats on making 10 and many more to come!

Well.... just because you've done a picnic in the living room before doesn't mean you can't do it again.... And maybe it depends on what you're wearing when you greet him.... ;)

You could do something like come up with some creative gift certificates for him--like a massage from you or a day he can do whatever he wants--using what you know about him and your relationship to create ideas that would be really nice for him. I think a nice letter telling him what you told us--that you're really proud that you guys have made it--and telling him what he means to you would also be appreciated.

And CONGRATS!!

Congrats on celebrating 10 years! I got a 3 stone anniversary ring for mine. I think as long as whatever you do is from the heart that's all that matters. Having a picnic on the living room floor can become your annual tradition.

10 years - Congratulations. Here are a few ideas, some which may have already been posted - but they were a hit with my DH.

- Have a candle lit bubble bath ready when he comes home
- Do up some nibbly things (stuffed mushrooms with crab/cream cheese), meatballs with dill/sour cream/mayo dip, crackers, cheese & meat. PM me if you want step by steps for the nibblies.
- Make up some nice "personal" gift certificates for a 1/2 hour massage, foot rub, spicy ones too :), be creative.
- have the bedroom lit up in candles with a tray of strawberries, grapes, wine/champagne and a chocolate sauce.
- Enjoy your evening :)

You can write him a 10 year anniversary letter that comes from your heart.

My DH and I had been through so much by the time we hit 10 years, neither one of us thought we would get that far (we are at 14 1/2 now :)). For our 10 years DH bought me a gold charm for my necklace that symbolized hope, love & charity. I bought him a chain with a Saint Christopher pendent on it - neither were very expensive. But the thing that we both enjoyed was being together, wining, dining and enjoying one another reminicing and looking forward to many, many more happy years.

Good luck with whatever you do - and remember it's really not about the gift but the thoughts and the time spent together.

I think Roxanne's idea of the 10th Anniversay letter...written from the heart is a GREAT idea!! No amount of $$ can ever take the place of what is in your heart.
Congratulations to you both for making it to 10...here's to many more to come, and I'm sure there will be plenty more because it sounds like you guys are so totally in love! ;)

Thank you to everyone for the ideas and warm wishes! I am going to use some of the great ideas that I have gotten from you all. Plus we have decided we are just going to set aside enough money to go to a nice restaraunt to have dinner, that should be a nice start to the evening ;)
