OMG!! This is the most unbelievable thing. Last night when my husband and I were going to bed, we noticed a bunch of cop cars a little way down the street. I called the police office to see what was going on. I was really ticked because all they would say is it's an investigation. Well duh!! I asked if it was safe or do we need to close all windows and put our alarm on. They told me "No, if there was any danger the would have told the neighbors." Needless to say, I had to find out what happened on the 10:00 news. Now here's the thing. We live in a really nice neighborhood. The samllest house in here starts at $500,000. Even the reporters and the cops on TV keep saying this is a "Blessed" neighbohood of "highly expensive" homes and things like this do not happen here. The house is a $900,000 home that is for sale. The owners moved out in May. It was the Realtor that was murdered by a client he was showing the house to. It sure sounds like a hit to me. Thankfully my 12 year old daughter didn't find out about it until this morning. However my 14 year old daughter saw all the cars. She was so scared that I had to sleep with her last night. We had to tell my 12 year old this morning and she just cann't stop crying. On top of all of that, it's their first day of school today. I just keep stressing that it was not a random murder. Doesn't seem to help much.

They are doing a man hunt for the murderer as we speak. My house is a security nightmare. It is 5000 square feet all on one level. It is really spread out. I actually have more glass on my walls than I have sheetrock. Every single room in this house has at least one door in it leading outside. I have 14 skylights in the house and 4 in my garage. Our house is an adobe style, so it has a flat roof. People make fun of me all the time because I alarmed my skylights. I also have window alarm screens and glass breaks in everyroom that are on a 24 hour system. I sure hope if that murderer comes calling on us, my alarm system will help us.

Sorry if I rambled, but we are all pretty shaken up. Please join me and say a prayer for the murdered man and his family. Also a prayer for the family who own the house because it's going to take forever to sell it now! Thanks for listening.

Cheryl:

I am so sorry!! This happened a few years ago on my very nice street too. A neighbor was renting his basement (to earn enough $$ to keep his house). Well, the renter was dealing drugs and was murdered for the drug $ he owed. It is very scary. One of my neighbors witnessed the whole thing and my husband had to identify the body because he closely matched the description of the owner!

The best thing is to talk to your kids about what happened and what you can do to be safe. At the request of my kids, we walked around the house checking the window locks, doors, and anything that they felt needed to be checked. Even after they caught the guy, we still left lights on and the tv or radio turned on.

Chances are this didnt have anything to do with your neighborhood, but something between those two men and just happened to be in your neighborhood.

Take care & stay safe!

That's horrible and so sad!! It does get scary so close to home!!! Apparently someone was after that particular realtor, so it's not a random act? I guess that might put your mind at ease later on after the shock wears off!!

Just goes to show you murder knows no socioeconomic status!! (I think I watch too much crime tv--Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, etc., City Confidential)

OMG! Cheryl, i didnt even think that was in your neighborhood, i know they said the two major cross streets in the area, but i never put the two together. Goodness, your poor girls and you! I am so very sorry for you. I would be so scared as well. Please know that i will keep ya'll in my prayers and hope that everything works out ok.
When we were broken into, while i was at work, i ended up sleeping in the living room with my son for almost 2 weeks before he would sleep alone. so i understand. If you need anything, please feel free to let me know.

God bless,
Carolyn

What a terrible tragedy!! Has the murderer been caught or even identified yet? You all must feel so violated to have such a heinous crime so close to your home. My prayers are with you and your family....keep us updated....

Oh how scary! I wouldn't make fun of you for your alarm systems...apparently it is needed with a murder a few houses away. I hope they catch these people, or person, responsible and in the meantime please keep you, your family, and fur babies safe.

Thank you everybody SO much for your support. Here's the update. Some neighbors must have seen the suspect going into the house with the Realtor. They were able to meet with the police and come up with a sketch. To me, the murder really sounded like a hit. I figured the victim somehow screwed over somebody and this was his pay back. It seems my theory was wrong. The police said that he called several other Realtors in the area to see houses as well. It's sounding more like a ramdom killing, which is so much more frightening. They have not even said that they have any leads on finding this terrible man.

My daughters will not sleep down in their area of the house. My dh slept in his home office last night while our 14 year old slept in bed with me and our 12 year old slept on an air mattress on the floor. She actually gets so nervous that she feels stomach sick. They are okay in the house until it starts getting dark outside. Out here where we live, the houses are spread apart. We have an empty lot on either side of us and a whole stretch of empty lots behind us. We always liked that. However now I wish we had neighbors closer.

It is VERY dark out here as well because there are no street lights. Yesterday I called a few electricians for appts. to come out here and install flood lights all around our home. My husband and I are also going out Sat. to buy a gun. There is a shooting range not too far from here and that's where I will be spending time fine tuning my shot. I know this is a very controversal topic, but my husband travels a lot. I need a way to protect my children should anyone break into our home. My girls and I are very thankful that Rob is not traveling this week or next. Usually he is gone about 3 days a week.

Again, thanks so much for your thoughts. I will continue to update everyone as the police let us know what is going on. Hopefully soon our children will be able to feel safe again in their own home.

Cheryl :)

Cheryl,

The only problem with guns is lack of training and responsibility IMO. I never grew up around guns, but when i was in the military, i had to learn how to use them. To be honest, i love it! wish some of my guy friends lived in state so we could go shooting! Be sure to see if there is a basic training course in gun safety and use. and give the girls a hug from katie and me.

God Bless,

If you are interested, I can hook you up with some places to take safety and handling courses in your area.

Scary situation. While I have no kids, and a k-9 alarm system, I do keep a loaded gun tucked between my mattress' I also have a police scanner to keep up with what is going on in the area. And I too live in a fairly decent 'hood.

Stay safe and keep alert.
