We called her many names. Zoe, Zoe Ann, Zadele, Zadie 'el, Zadale, Zadie-ew-a-ellen. I remember the first day I met her. She was already an adult. I'd done something, I don't remember what, for Angie, the director of our boxer rescue. I'd gone to her home and was sitting on the couch and this perfect reverse brindle boxer came and lay her head in my lap. I made the mistake of touching her. She was all over me. Angie had to keep telling her, "Zoe, get off him." Somehow, I knew right then that she was mine. She adjusted so well to her new home, to her brothers, to me. We all adjusted to her very quickly. Over the years she gave me unconditional love, she gave everyone she came into contact with unconditional love. When I met the love of my life and Zoe had to deal with having two daddies and she was just that much happier. On January 3rd I put her, Doogun and Prue, our male and other female boxers outside to potty. When I called them in about ten minutes later Zoe was no where to be found. She'd climed over the fence before and always came to the front door sometime during the day. After a day or so when she'd not returned we started an all out search for her. We should have done it earlier but thought she was just out playing. The night of 1/5/5 a lady that had seen our missing poster at Wal-Mart called to say she had seen the body of a dog that looked similar to our Zoe. We went to where she told us and sure enough it was our precious little girl. She was up on the grass, someone must have moved her out of the road. The road is the major road running through our city and cars run at speeds over 65 mph at times. Her body as cold, eyes lifeless and open. Rigor-mortis had set in. I knelt beside her body to apoligize to her. I placed her body in the back seat of the car took her home, wrapped her in two plastic bags, put her in a box, wrapped it in two plastic bags, dug a hole and buried her in it. I pray she didn't suffer. We were all she had and I am so, so, so so very sorry that she had to die alone. I pray that she went quickly and never had to wonder why we weren't there. I miss her barks when we would play with one of the other dogs. I miss her waking me early in the morning. I miss the way she would wiggle her entire body when she got excited. I never gave her pretty things when she was alive, I really wish I had. She, or maybe I, would have loved her enjoying pretty girly things. I've circled her grave with white metal fencing that is used to go around flower beds. Put pretty pink flowers on it, and a little girl angel holding flowers placed near the head of the grave. She was always caring, always very, very loving and today my soul is dimmer, my heart heavy because I'll never feel that love again.
Zadie you will be missed by all those that knew you, by those that loved you. Both your daddies love and miss you as do your two brothers and two sisters. May you forever rest in peace. May your soul forever run, free, free like the wind.
We love you.

My Zoe

I checked my photo album here on boxer world and found a picture of Zoe on the couch and one of all three dogs together. I thought it fitting for everyone to see Zadale where she loved to be, on the couch. Here's a link.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss of Zoe. She will be so missed by your family. Take care of yourself and hug your babies.

Run and be wild sweet girl. You are free now, even though you miss your daddies and family.

I do hope you find peace within. We never think the pain of losing one would ever be as hard as it is. I surely never thought the pain would ever go away. Let me rephrase that! I don't think it ever goes away (the pain), but I do know that it subsides and whatever guilt we have, dissapates. She is such a beautiful girl and your very special tribute to her is wonderful. Her little grave is personal and special and Zoe sees that and loves you both.
I hope you find inner peace:)

Be free Zoe with all the other boxer babies..
