Thanks for the Welcome

Let me tell you more about my Boxer babies.
Hooch came to us last January with a pizza. LOL........... Our friend Joe owns a pizza place and has 3 male Boxers of his own, which we feel in love with. We always got a good pizza and lots of kisses from his babies. On a Friday night, the start of the 3 day holiday weekend for Martin Luther King, we ordered a pizza to be delivered. When Mike came with the pizza he had a boxer with him on a lease. We assumed he had one of Joe's babies with him, but found out he didn't. Mike said here's your pizza and your boxer, Joe wants you two to have this boxer. Well, I looked at my hubby and he looked at me. I think we both had the same look of amazement on our faces. Already having 3 other dogs of our own, an Aussie and 2 Boston Terriers we agreed to keep him till Monday. Joe said a customer had brought this lost boxer to him but he couldn't keep him there with his other 3 males, but promised he would try and find a home for him. Well, by Sunday this 8 month old, all natural boy had worked his way into our hearts and had bonded, I mean BONDED with my hubby. He wasn't going anywhere, hubby told me to call Joe and tell him that he wasn't going to get him back ever. With a happy heart I called Joe who was pleased, but not surprised. This was a year ago and not one day has gone by that Hooch hasn't made us laugh. What a joy and a blessing he has been.
Yes we were hooked on boxers, next post Simons story.

Simons Story

Well after reading my story about Hooch you know we got hooked on boxers, so we had to get another one. I even had a named picked out, Simon. That's where my quote comes from " Boxers are like chips, you just can't have one".
I started looking for a boxer breeder checking AKC, the internet and the newspaper. I found a few ads in the newpaper, but this one ad I saw seemed to draw my attention more than the others so I called. This woman told us that she only had one puppy left. A fancy fawn, 10 wks old, but he was the runt and really small and she would reduce the price. Kewl! we'll go look at him.
Over the years I have ran across puppy mills and have been sickened by them, but never purchased a puppy. Vowed I never would and I never did, till I saw Simon.
It was about a 2 hour drive from us and I was so excited about getting a new puppy. We finally arrived and this woman, I refuse to call her a breeder, met us at a back gate. When she opened the gate we saw at least 10 pairs of different breeds of dogs in cages. In shock we follow her into her trailer. She goes to a cage and brings out this tiny boxer puppy. Says he is 10 wks old, but looks only about 3 wks old. She insists that he was the runt and that's why he is so small. I am in shock, but getting madder by the second and with my back to this woman and holding this poor baby in my arms I am mouthing NO! NO! NO! to my husband who is staring also. Then I placed the puppy on the floor and he ran around the kitchen frantically looking for food. My husbands look of shock changed to a look of dispair and pleading. We both new that we couldn't leave without him and that we were sent by God to save this puppy.
We drove straight to our vet, who was so surprised, but not, because we have brought in strays before, to get help and shots and spayed or neutered and then giving to good homes. Surprised, because we had never brought in a dog from a puppy mill till now. Simon weighed only 3 pds and 2 oz. His belly was swollen, full of worms and an infection on his back from his tail docking. The vet said he was the worst of the worst that he had ever seen and that he probably would have had just a couple more days to live if left there. Simon was so weak that the vet could only worm him and give him an antibiotic. He told us to bring him back in a week if he was still alive to get his shots started. The vet was so angry and said if he had an address and a gun he would be paying a visit to this woman. Well I gave him the address and phone # and while we were there the vets office called this woman. Don't think she is in business anymore.
Well the good news is that Simon is 8 months now and growing like a weed. He was gaining like 2 or 3 pounds a week. Not sure how much he weighs right now, but he is a beautiful, healthy, happy puppy. He has been natured (sp)with love from us and our aussie and his big brother Hooch, who has taught him everthing he knows, good and bad LOL.
We have found that love, is a boxer(s)
God Bless, Jewell

That is such a sad thing!! I just don't understand how some people can treat animals like that! I'm just glad to hear that he's doing so well!! We got Buster from some people who told us the same thing...runt of the litter. They were breeding two whites; I didn't know much about boxers and I had never seen a white one before so we went to look at him and fell in love instantly. I told my vet about this lady when we took him in to get shots and ask why we were having such a hard time pottytraining him. He checked Buster out and found that he was completely deaf. He immediately asked for this ladies name and address when we told him about her breeding 2 whites. We finally ended up getting a "free puppy" (mix breed)and she had him pottytrained in three days. That was three years ago and he's healthy as a horse and about the size of one too! LOL He knows his signs but has his boxer moments when he chooses to "listen" to them or not. We just recently rescued a white boxer from the pound. His name is Riddick and we thought maybe he might be deaf too, but turns out it was just really bad ear infections. He's doing great now, and is finally putting on some weight. He still has alot of extra skin hanging off him (it looks like he use to be big at one time) but we'll get him filled back out!!
I'm glad you had the heart to take that little runt home with you!! He's deffinitely a loved addition!!
