I use natural peanut butter with no added salt, oil, or sugar for kongs. Freezing does make it last longer.

Light Cream Cheese

My 15 week old LOVES light cream cheese in his kong! I also use peanut butter, and am going to try freezing it like you all have suggested. I usually give him a little of one or the other Monday thru Friday when I leave for work. When I pick up his kong, he runs into his crate and sits there waiting for me to bring it to him.

I just rechecked with my vet. She said to only give soy cream cheese if you are going to leave a kong filled with cream cheese during the day. Regularl cream cheese will create mold. I give Zeus a frozen peanut butter filled kong (his favorite), but I give him a frozen marrow bone if I forget to fill his kong the night befoe. He loves both and can continue to chew on the bone long after the marrow is gone.

When I crated Balboa, he got a frozen kong each morning when I left for work. I used mashed banana with about a teaspoon of regular peanut butter mixed in. I would top it off with a treat sticking out to get him going. As soon as he heard me open the freezer, he would run get in his crate and sit. He loved it. I still fix him one every now and then as a special treat.

I wish Zeus would run into his crate! I have to coax him into the crate even with the frozen peanut butter kong in the crate.

In addition to peanut butter you can also put non-fat plain yogurt in with kibble and freeze it. If you change up the stuffing he might not associate the kong with the kitchen counter! Apples are another good stuffer with either the peanut butter or the yogurt. You can also make giant ice cubes to keep their attention. We have a Kool Dogz for outside but have also made up big bowl sized ice cubes to put in the water dish in the house. One of Bella's favorites is watered down chicken broth, apples, carrots and dog biscuits all frozen together.
