Awesome!

Congrats to the both of you! Champ is only 10 going on 11 weeks old, but I look forward to the classes! What type of treats are you using? Also the type of lead?

Thanks,

Clemente

Thanks everyone for the replies! The whole training thing is really cool. Our intermediate class is off to a kind of rocky start. It's a mixed class, but all of the dogs are at a much higher level than Jayda and older and calmer. Jayda gets distracted quite a bit still but I am also very inexperienced as a handler. So I am not so good at treating when I should or correcting and not correcting and walking right and so on. So this level is tough but the trainer is very good and she thinks Jayda is a very smart girl. I just need to step it up now. But I am really enjoying it. I'm just glad to have found something that I can do with her.

As far as the treats, I haven't settled on anything yet. I started out using pieces of chicken flavored puppy biscuits. Today I used pieces of cooked chicken. The trainer suggests cooked liver. Another dog owner uses Bil-Jacs. So I dunno... Guess I'll try liver. Either way, treats are definitely working for Jayda. And we're trying to fit her for the correct lead. The trainer thinks she'll do best with a short, leather lead (about 3" long).

Well thanks again for all the kind replies. They really made my night!!

Take care everyone.

Erica, I am in awe of you and Jayda. When I took Diva to puppy class we got kicked out - was told that she was just too hyper and was 'annoying' the other dogs - hmmm. Happy to report that at 11 years of age now Diva is a model older canine citizen appicon I also have to admit that Monty and me didn't fair much better either, but then I didn't get him till 5 months old - he wasn't toilet trained or socialised and tried to lunge at everyone, but with alot of hard work from both Monty, myself and Diva he came good in the end. You and Jayda keep up the great work :)

Thanks Lizzie! So Diva is a canine citizen as in CGC (Canine Good Citizen)?

Congratulations to you an Jayda - that is awesome!!

Bella was not exactly the class clown at puppy school, but certainly was extremely distracted and always wanted to play! BUT, our last class was on Saturday and she won a prize for doing the best trick (shaking hands), so I was really proud. And she came second for doing the most puppy push-ups, which I would never have believed 5 weeks ago!

She starts puppy preschool this Saturday, so hopefully she will continue to improve and surprise me! :)
