Thanks everyone for the replies! The whole training thing is really cool. Our intermediate class is off to a kind of rocky start. It's a mixed class, but all of the dogs are at a much higher level than Jayda and older and calmer. Jayda gets distracted quite a bit still but I am also very inexperienced as a handler. So I am not so good at treating when I should or correcting and not correcting and walking right and so on. So this level is tough but the trainer is very good and she thinks Jayda is a very smart girl. I just need to step it up now. But I am really enjoying it. I'm just glad to have found something that I can do with her.
As far as the treats, I haven't settled on anything yet. I started out using pieces of chicken flavored puppy biscuits. Today I used pieces of cooked chicken. The trainer suggests cooked liver. Another dog owner uses Bil-Jacs. So I dunno... Guess I'll try liver. Either way, treats are definitely working for Jayda. And we're trying to fit her for the correct lead. The trainer thinks she'll do best with a short, leather lead (about 3" long).
Well thanks again for all the kind replies. They really made my night!!
Take care everyone.
