Hi everyone,

It's been a while for me on this site. I've been crazy busy with work. Just wanted to pop in to let you all know that Jayda and I took first place in our very first obedience class! It was a 10 week basic course for dogs 6 months to adult where we learned lots of different commands.

The first day I was sure we would be taking this course over because she was just too distracted with everything and not really listening to me. But things changed, she changed, week after week. On the last day (last Thursday) was the judging class where we have to follow a crap load of commands by the judge and no treats could be given the whole time (I was using treats during the regular sessions). I was very nervous, especially after Jayda jumped on the judge's butt 5 minutes before the session started! (Way to go Jayda...) I guess she was really excited. Anyway, we were up first and she did a great job. We did sits, heeling, turns, figure eight, stand, recall, finish, sit for 1 minute alone (without me next to her) and down for 2 minutes alone. I was almost in shock when Jayda followed every command. We lost points for just a few things but I was honestly in shock as she performed every command very well. After we were awarded our ribbon the judge told me how intelligent Jayda is and how we should continue on to the next class (intermediate training). She is only 10 months old and she did awesome! There were 4 other owner and dog teams. And only two of us were recommended to advance to the next level. It was amazing, simply amazing. For all her crazyness, she really is an awesome girl. I guess we're not doing too bad here after all... First class at the intermediate level is Thursday. Here we go. :)

Thanks for listening.

That's awesome!! Juno never would have been able to do it. And only 10 months old too, sounds like she's on a good path!

great job.....where did you take the classes at...

The place is called Canine Training Association and it's in Beltsville, MD. It's a nice place and we got 10 weeks for only $65! Then you pay another $52 to have training for the rest of the year! It's like a $100 membership per year to go for training as often as you like. They even do agility. I think we'll give that a try when she's ready. :)

appicon Congratulations to both of you! Isn't it fun? I think Boxers are like the class clowns in school. On the surface they appear to be just goofs but the wheels are always turning in their brains and they really are the smartest ones in the class. I know that whenever Bella is acting up, if I hold that smooshy face in my hands and look her in the eye I can tell that she is just playing dumb!

Congrats!

We start our classes in a few weeks and I can only hope to have similar success. We will be training at an obedience club that sounds a lot like yours. They do all levels of obedience and also train for various competitions (obedience, agility etc.) Also, once a month they do AKC cert stuff like CGC. We're going to observe a class tonight so we know what to expect.

Good luck at the next level!
