I made the decision to get a puppy when Oscar was already 4 years old. By then, Oscar had been the baby of the family and bonded quite a bit with BF and I (we got him when he was 6 weeks). We thought, he needs a playmate. So, we got Jasmine. Oscar wasn't happy with us at first but now he is warming up to her and still cuddles with us. It's actually kind of nice because, we each have a dog to cuddle with on the couch. I think your dog is young enough that it won't take him as long to adjust. I was very nervous bringing the new dog into the family knowing the bond Oscar had with us, and for awhile I thought I had made a huge mistake, Oscar wouldn't look at me or come to me when I called him, b/c I was the one that brougth this little one home. In the end everything is fine, Oscar got over it. I think it's a wonderful idea if you want another dog and you think your dog and the family can handle it. I would just advise you to consider it carefully before taking that next step. I told myself if I was going to get another dog it couldn't be passed Oscar's 4 year mark, because by then I think he would have been too jealous to deal. Anyway, sorry this is so long. I wish you the best!
