Why you named your Boxers what you did?

Ginger-Snap

We picked Ginger-Snap because:
1. there was a Ginger in her family tree (a great-grandma I think, but I can't remember her full name);
2. because she is the color of a Ginger-snap cookie;
3. because she is sweet like a cookie; and,
4. because the name was cute and she was cute!

We call her Ginger and Ginger-Snap, but we also call her Snap and Snapper.

Well..

Chief: was named after Paul "the Chief" Harragon rugby league football star
Molly: for molly mooka my lovely girl I just wanted a pretty girly name and finally MAJOR: because after Chief passed away & we were lucky enough to find MAJOR (he was called fritz at the time) we wanted another authorative name for the way he just took over the whole household!

Brindle Fae Gentleman Jackson is his full name. But most of the time we simply call him Jackson.

Gentleman Jackson was John Jackson a fellow who lived in the early 1700's in England and the very first fellow to open a boxing club. I've always been a history nut and added to that, always wanted a son named Jack. Since that isn't going to happen, I got to adopt the lad to be my surrogate son. He's the best decision I've ever made, a true joy.

As to the Brindle Fae part -- he's a gorgeous tiger stripe brindle boxer with a flashy chest and white toes but when he came home, all 8 pounds of him, I'd just croon to him that he was my 'sugar plum faerie'. I can see him now, eight months old, 70 pounds, rolling his eyes and saying 'MOM! Don't tell them that!' but he knows he's my faerie baby.

My husband named Elsa. She was a rescue and her hip bones and backbone were sticking out sooooooo bad (she only weighted 29 lbs.; now weights 55+ lbs) that he said she reminded him of a jersey cow. He was thinking of Elise the Cow (guess I giving out my age . . . remind the commercial of Elise the Cow??) but said Elsa. I liked Elsa better than Elise so I just kept quiet. Personally, I would have taken any name as long as I got to keep her!

I dont have a boxer yet, but I wanted a name that was appropriate. I chose (already and I dont even have a dog haha) Max.

I think things through so I have a number of reasons for the name:

1. My favorite dog as a kid was a Keeshound named Max. He was my dog when I was about 8 and I thought he could read my mind because I would just say things to him and he would actually do them hehe.

2. I'm a huge boxing fan and so I was looking for a boxer's name that would fit the dog. So I read up on Max Schmeling and found his story very inspiring, and since Boxers are of a German origin, it just fits: http://www.auschwitz.dk/schmeling.htm

Let's go, Tisse!

In the past 30 years Sharon and I have had four boxers. The first, who lived for twelve years, was named 'Tisse' (rhymes with Lisa). It's a Danish word for 'pee', as in 'Mor, jeg skal tisse' (' Mother, I must go pee'). I loved the dog and the name. Our sister-in-law liked it so much she named her dog Tisse (but, I'm told, she didn't know what it meant at the time, or she might not have done so. :)

Our second boxer, who dropped dead at 3-1/2 (most probably sub-aortic stenosis) was named 'Wobie', short for Sharon's Wobegon. Oh, she was a sweet one! At the time we were big 'Prairie Home Companion' fans.

Our third and fourth boxers, littermate sisters, were called 'Bitsie', short for Little Bit, the runt of the litter, and Logo, after the children's programming language by the same name. I was into computers in education at the time.

Now, after a nearly three year hiatus since our last, Logo, died at age 12, we have finished our new home and are more than ready for another boxer or two. I have no idea what name(s) we'll pick, but I hope whatever dogs and names we choose will be as fitting and fun as these four.

BTW, we also had a small black terrier mix that lived to be 17+ years. We named him 'Mose', 'cause he grunted rhythmicly, as Mose Allison, the jazz painist, does when he plays.

BTW2, 'Talla' is the name I have given to our new home. It's derived from the name of the county we live in, Tallapoosa. Though it won't be our new boxer's name, I can imagine it could be someone else's. There are numerous 'Talla's in our part of the US, including Talladaga, and Tallahassee. In most cases they derive from native indian languages once spoken in the area.

Roscoe CW Stevens

Good Morning,

I have wanted a Boxer for YEARS and it was finally born on 07.17.04 I've named him in honor of the greatest restaurant in the world, Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles. May sound silly, but Roscoe really fits a Boxer. Apparently the name fits, because when I call the breeder to check on him he says that he LOVES to eat = )
