The Solid Gold Holistique Blendz is kind of an allergy food, but also one that is designed for you to add meat yourself. So yes, on it's own it is a bit low in meat and protein.

On Wellness, it's generally the standard (Super5) formulas that some dogs have troubles with. The white fish formula is more of an allergy food.

But the Timberwolf is excellent. I'd certainly take one of those if you can get it nearby. Any one of those formulas would be just fine - so really just a case of pick one :)

As for testing chicken now - if he isn't allergic to it, it really should cause no problems at all. The need to change foods gradually really only applies to dry foods. Those of us who feed raw, for example, change meats as often as daily (within the same day, even). It does not seem to cause any issues at all - it's really a kibble phenomena.

Oh good. Thanks for that. I think I will try the chicken and will see if I can get Timberwolf right away :) If not, I'll probably do the Wellness.

Update

Just to update on Liza...after the potato and beef went well we decided to test the rice one more time to be sure. It is very difficult to find rice-free food, especially treats so we wanted to be sure it wasn't something else that caused the upset. She had firm stools before and then the day following the rice she went mushy again. Bingo! She has also been much more itchy lately too so I hope that settles now and is the fault of the rice. We didn't bother testing the chicken. It is easy to find things without chicken and now I frimly believe that rice does not agree. Arg. Liza is a dog that has a lot of anomolies, so why not a rice allergy too (she may have ectopic ureter, and she has a blood clotting disorder-Von Willebrands). We are still weaning her off of the potato and beef (last day today) and onto Wellness fish and sweet potato and it's going really well. With any luck her ear and face scratching and feet licking/chewing will dissipate. Fingers crossed. Thanks again Gmacleod. You were so helpful :)
