I know it`s normal, and it doesn`t hurt them or anything, but I was just wondering if anybody knows why they have this disgusting habit..?

I mean, is it because of the good  taste, or does it have something to do with instincts?

Fortunately Aragon never eats his own poop or other dog`s poop for that matter, but any other animal or human..(!) and he`s there..:o

One suggestion that I have heard is that their are some nutrients in the food that had been "missed" the first time around. So some give it another go to try and get everything they can from that meal. Harley only insists on eating bunny poo  .
It's called coprophagy, a search should bring up some more suggestions.

"Human?!" Ewwww! Now there's a source of nasty bacteria... no face licking for you, Aragon! I think I'd try to do whatever I could to prevent THAT

I also heard it's because they feel there is still some nutritional element they want to reprocess. BTW, the hands-down favorite, I think, of the furbabies on here, is cat poop.

Getting worried..

Okay, now I`m getting worried... One of the reasons I asked was because we were out walking in the woods today, (there are usually never any dogs where I walk so he got to go of leash) and suddendly he found something that was obviously much more interesting than me...
He usuall drops whatever he has in his mouth when I tell him to, but not this time (guess we have to work more on that command.. ) . So I walk over to see what was so interesting, and you guessed it.. poop.. And it must have been human, because there was some toilet paper there aswell..:( Ewwwwww!!!!!
I`m not only disgusted, but I`m starting to get worried...:(

Is this dangerous?? Should I have him checked by the vet..?

Man...that's pretty gross. Toilet paper  ???????????
I guess a vet check wouldn't hurt, maybe they could give you a solution to your problem.

Good Luck.

I know eating poop is not that uncommon but I have never heard of it as being normal. But maybe I am wrong.

Max statred doing this...We think. We often come home to find spots on the bottom of his crate pan but guess what? No poop! It has to be going somewhere... I think he says to himself, "Hmmm...I am bored AND hungry. Wouldn't it be great to have a fresh snack right about now?" Eeeeewwwwww! We started him on Deter last week. BTW, the vet said that Adolph's seasoning has the same effect as Deter but way cheaper. Good luck.

Star does this as well, only with the cat litter though. Ive been told there is a higher protein content in cat food as well as tasting stronger than dog food.

Its a fight to clean the litter tray first between Star and me!
