Where to put the crate?

A brand new puppy is best crated in your room. That way they don't feel alone. When the get a bit older, I think a quieter place for a crate is better.

We do move Koda's crate. We were crating him in our room during the day but man he barked, howled, whined and everything else. I started moving his crate into our living room when he is crated while we are gone and it was an almost an over night difference. He stopped whining and everything else. Not sure why being in the living room during the day makes a huge difference, maybe because it's more open and our other dog is out there, but moving the crate worked for us.
He's getting to the point now, that when my husband or I move th crate to the bedroom, he goes to the back door to be let out, and when we all go to bed I just have to tell him to kennel, and he goes and lays down.

If you've got room, having a crate in the living area and one in the bedroom will make life MUCH simpler!
It doesn't need to be the same crate for training to work.
I keep my puppies downstairs with me and put them in that crate to sleep when they get obnoxiously overtired, then wake them up and take them out one last time before they go to their upstairs crate for the whole night.
