Well, I have a tie. I'm not a world traveler, I have never left the USA. I will say that that the island of Oahu, Hawaii has it's beautiful spots. I just wish I could've went to the one of the other islands as I've heard they are beautiful! I also got to drive cross country from Los Angeles when we moved from Hawaii and Arizona was was sight to see. We saw the Grand Canyon, South Rim and the drive from there to Flagstaff was awesome!! That was the best vacation I've ever had.

The first place that I visited was Luxemburg in the 1950's, I loved the country, all of the old buildings, cobble-stone streets and the country-side, it was lovely. Then there has been, Australia, Germany, Jamaica, Scotland (especially the Orkney Isles up north), the Island of Kauai ; they are all beautiful in their own ways. Oh, of course, Canada and their mountains & sea.

First place would have to go to Kauai, Hawaii. Went there for our honeymoon 3 years ago, and didn't want to leave. Matt, the Na Pali coast was too amazing for words. We did a helicopter tour that took us over those jagged mountains.

Second place award goes to Alaska. Breathtaking country, mountains, glaciers, wildlife. Lived there as a kid from '81-'86.

BUT, I am *dying* to go to Italy!!!!! Have dreamed of going there ever since I was about 6 years old. My family has some Italian roots, and there's a lot of family history still there. And it's just gorgeous. I will go someday, rest assured. I refuse to die until I see Italy.

Although I'm an American, I've lived and travelled abroad for the past 42 years (spending less than 10 years actually in the States). For me, hands down the most beautiful place I've been is New Zealand. Specifically, the South Island ~ even more specifically, the Queenstown and Glenorchy areas. Spectacular scenery and wonderful people.

Second place would be a toss-up between Alaska (I camped on the Kuskokwin River for two months years ago) and a tiny little island the size of a football field about an hour off the coast of Phuket, Thailand. Wish I could remember the name of it!

All beautiful places in their own ways, but in my opinion, when people refer to "God's Country" they must surely be referring to New Zealand!:)

Mom3 - Yay - glad someone loves New Zealand (not that I'm biased or anything:D :D ;)). I grew up in the South Island (though now live in the North). We call it Godzone...

For me, the most beautiful places I've travelled to would have to be either Canada (Ottawa area - love the colours) or else Madrid. That being said - I've got a whole lot of the world to see yet.

First of all, Dan, I am very jealous that you have been to Bali. That is my dream vacation. The most breathtaking beach I have ever been to is on the island of Provodenciales in Turks and Caicos. It is so gorgeous and the water is equally beautiful. As for Europe, Austria and Switzerland are my favorites. They have an old-time warmth about them that I just loved.

I thought Maui was beautiful.

You can really appreciate the beauty if you see the view from a Helicopter tour which flies over West Maui and Molokai -- where you can see the HUGE waterfalls and lush mountainsides.

I highly recommend it
