The vet said to do it when she's spayed, but between now and then, what happens if she sneaks out the door ect.. I don't like the idea of waiting, but since it would be "uncomfortable" without anesthesia what do you do?

We microchipped both of ours about a week after their final injections, so 13/14 weeks old. It is a big needle, but neither of them flinched, Rubys spotted alittle bit of blood, we stood by their head feeding treats as the vet did it.
It's a bit like having your ears pierced with one of those guns, hurts for a few moments but soon forgotten!
It seems to be the norm over here to do it early our vets didn't even off the option of waiting.

Good analogy! I think I'll just get it done; I think I'd feel better. Is there a reason you waited a week after the last injection? She goes in for her shots this week. Couldn't they just do it then?

Ditto Pip.

Anaesthetic wasn't in the least necessary. Biff didn't even notice the needle going in.

Cooper was done at 8 weeks. I would go ahead and do it. Plus, if your Boxer is like mine, she won't even notice. :)

Lola & Zeb were done as young pups at the last innoculations if I remember rightly but they suggested doing Capser when he was neutered but I took him before that as it was microchipping month and half price. It's so quick, can't say painless as I really wouldn't know but they didn't seem to mind it much.

We had Rolen microchipped when he went in for his last set of puppy shots. He didn't seem to mind at all...was too focused on the treats! :)

I did it!

Well, I took her in today for her last round of shots and I had them do the microchip. I brought in a jerky treat for her and she didn't even flinch (or so they said, they took her back to the surgery area). I was listening really hard and I didn't hear anything. Although I think this Vet is wonderful, I'm surprised they thought I should wait to do it???? Anyway, I'm glad it's done and I have that extra peace of mind.

Ozzy also was done like that, he didn't feel a thing, I was right there. They probably said to do it at the same time as being fixed just to save you an appointment.
