Hi all
I hope I've posted this in the right forum...if not, please feel free to move it! When we pick up our pup this summer, he will be 9 weeks old. I know that ears need to be cropped before 14 weeks, but is 9 weeks too early to crop? We are driving to AZ to get our pup and we have found a great vet who does ear cropping there and we would like to only make one trip to AZ if we can. Therefore, if we can get the pup and crop all in the same visit, that would be great. For those of you who may remember my first post about getting a Boxer, we were going to a breeder in Canada. However, I have been asking her for the health testing reports for 3 months now, and she has never sent them. Therefore, we have found another breeder. More on this topic to come later.smashicon Thanks in advance for any responses.

9 weeks is a perfect time to crop...we had Boo cropped at 10 weeks only because we didn't get him until he was 10 weeks old ...my vet said she likes to crop them no later than 11 weeks if at all possible...so 9 weeks is not to early......

They are usually cropped anytime between 8 - 12 weeks. Markus was done at 8 weeks.

If it was my puppy, I would hesitate to get the ears cropped at the same time as I picked him up. I wouldn't want my puppies first association with me to be painful ears. :( I would want to be able to get to know him a bit first.

Would it be possible for the breeder to get the ears done before you pick him up?

Good luck with your puppy!

Thanks for the quick responses! Jan, you stated exactly what my husband and I were thinking. I just wanted to see my pup with his natural ears before I had him cropped. Maybe I should not be so selfish, smashicon and just ask the breeder to have it done. Thanks again

Keeloh's ears were cropped at 9 1/2 weeks. He did well through the process and they stood quickly. I also would recommend doing it early so as to curb any problems and still have time on your side.
Good luck!

You could see his ears natural his whole life if he didn't get his cropped at all;) Sorry, just my opinion. Just wondering, why do you want to get his ears cropped? I'm not trying to sound condesending, I'm just curious. :)

Because as natural is your preference, she must prefer cropped or she is going to show her dog.

Thanks Maniago...I could not have said it better myself!:D

Jan.....what amount of time would you think is correct to have the pup with me before we had the cropping done? I know this might be a bit hard to answer, but an approximation would be helpful. Thanks everyone for your responses.
