I found a news article from one of my local news stations. Its about how you should protect yourself in case of a major earthquake. In our schools, we teach to "duck and cover" by getting under your desks. this article says you should be NEXT to an object. Article Here

While our schools don't plan on chaning the training for earthquake safety, I can see the writers point, but was wondering what you guys thought?

When you think about it, it does make sense to be next to an object that care bare the weight of what is above you - it not only give you space to make sure you don't have many or if any broken bones, but it gives you air pockets. We were told to stand underneath a door jam, but after experiencing an earthquake, I will never "duck and cover" nor "stand in the door jam", I will now always be finding an area with an object that will give me what they call the "triangle of life". Actually I have just the spot in my living room on purpose. Behide the couch is an inclosed very heavy bookcase, that will tip forward when there is rattling (it is locked so the doors don't open), but when it tips forward it will land on the top, but back of the couch, giving me just enough room to sit underneath it, with Clover.

Just me two cents :)
