What's the scariest thing you and your baby have had to overcome?

About 3 days after we got Capone, the kids and I took him outside with us. I was watching him roam and he squatted so I looked away to check on the kiddos. Meanwhile DH had left to the store. When I called for the kids to come in Capone followed. He kept coughing. I bent down and picked him up to discover that he had swallowed a baited hook and some fishing line. I tried to see if I could get it out but I couldn't. And of course this was at 6 p.m. so the vet was closed. I begin making phone calls. I take the kids and the puppy and jump in the car barefoot. We drive the 25 miles away to the pet hospital. (Thank God above for those people.) So DH gets there before the Dr. does. We know by this point that Capone has swallowed a regular fish hook (not a treble hook TG,) and about 3 inches of fishing line (maybe less but not more.) They put him under General Anesthesia and put a scope down his throat. They tell us that we can pay the $650 dollars up front and they can cut him open and remove the hook, or we can wait 2-3 days while feeding him bread and rice and see if it passes on it's own. After the 2-3 days passes and the hook doesn't then we have to go for the surgery. We chose to wait and see if it passed on it's own. Which off the record the vet suggested.

Well as you can guess that was a nerve wracking 3 days! But everytime he went, mommy was right there to see if a hook was in it. I bet he thought we were some crazy people.

By the second day the hook passed and he was none the worse for wear. After the hook passed the Vet gave him a clean bill of health. :D

OMG that is really scary  Buster thank goodness has never done anything that scary. He ate my birthcontrol pills which really freaked me out, the Dr. thought it was funny and said well at least you know he won't be getting pregnant  We induced vomiting and he was fine. The ohter would be not really his fault but we walked in the house and he was in his crate and he was covered with throw-up and diarrhea he had a shift in his bacteria and gave him an infection. I rushed him to the ER on that one, thank goodness no dehydration and only need antibiotics.

Let's see.... Bindi ate the stuffing out of a stuffed animal, which could have caused a blockage. We had to wait and see if everything came out all right (pun intended). She threw most of it up, and then had compressed cotton poop for a few days. Then she was fine. WHY do they do these things?! She also ate/got stung by something one time that caused her head to swell up. It was HUGE! Luckily the vet just told me over the phone to give her Benadryl and then call back in 15 minutes if the swelling wasn't going down. It did. Why don't they do these things during normal vet hours?

Blood all over the place, all over Kona and my hands,(the first few weeks we got Kona)and not knowing what happened or where it was coming from . Turns out she cut the very edge of her ear and was bleeding like a "stuck pig". It would not stop either. Finally, I was able to stop the bleeding long enough to get some liquid bandage on it. Took about an hour to clean up everything -. the floor, walls, bathroom cabinet and door, her and me.

Last week when Roxy jumped the fence and I had to chase her for 2 - 3 hours. Then she got hit by a car when I was standing there. (she's fine, the scabs are even pretty much gone now!) I think half my gray hair belong strictly to Roxy.

Oh, got another one. This one was with Cassius at about 2 yrs old. We almost lost him when he got stung by a wasp(s). He started to go into shock as I was rushing him to the vet. After that incident we knew he was allergic to bees/wasp and always had to worry ( I never got over that fear) about him outside in the warm weather.

Trampoline!

This just happened on Friday, after Thanksgiving. Leah was burning around the backyard and didn't realize I guess that daddy moved the trampoline. She ran right into one of the bolts that hold the safety net on. It pulled her skin right off like a skinned animal. Thank goodness the vet was open and she was taken right in for surgery. She now has stitches from her shoulder all the way to the underside of her chest. The drain tube came out today and she's doing great (she's stil real cautious because she doesn't have as much skin as she started with) and the stitches come out on 12-9. Needless to say, we no longer have a trampoline.

When Mya was 13 weeks old, and at her second week of puppy class, she started acting very strange and laying on the floor. I looked and her gums and tongue were blue. She was choking on a treat. The teacher tried gagging her and she vomited but still couldn't breathe. It was stuck in her throat. They tried everything and finally she coughed it up. I was panic stricken. She finally got her color back, but every time she laid down she would stop breathing. We ended up taking her to the emergency vet right away and she had inhaled a treat and it was stuck in her lung, which was filling with fluid. They finally got her calmed down and she ended up staying there over night and then all day at her regular vets office. The piece in her lung eventually dissolved. What a scary thing. So, we learned the heimlich for pets and have used it in other classes when she got so excited and inhaled without chewing!

Ok, I have a few...

Basil has bloated 3 times, only one was serious but they all scared me and sent me rushing to the ER Vet.

Basil had an allergic reaction to his flea/tick medicine...I came home to a horrible mess (liquid poo & vomit). Had to rush him to the vet but no major damage was done. This was during regular vet hours.

Basil has had two TPLOs (major knee surgery)...after recovering from the first surgery, he was wrestling with another dog and let out a yelp and came back to me on three legs. I was afraid we had undone all of our hard work. He was fine and so was I once I stopped crying.

Of he's done other stuff that scared me but those are the scariest ;)
