Hello,
We do not have a Boxer of our own yet, however we would like to know what your first day, first week and first month were like with the new additons to the family? All stories are welcome four our learning purposes as well as laughs.
Thanks:)

FIRST DAY: All smiles, running around the back yard, cooing at our new pup...running in silly circles not caring what the neighbors thought. Falling down in the grass with that sweet-smelling puppy breath and razor sharp teeth on your ears, nose, fingers, etc.

FIRST WEEK: Still in the "honeymoon" stage. Working on the housebreaking, trying to show him that the food's not going anywhere...slow down! Sitting and watching him romp around the house, trying hard to explain to the cats that he really "just wants to play".....

FIRST MONTH: CRATE TRAINED AT LAST! No more whining at night, doing VERY well on the housebreaking thing....used up about 3 dozen rolls of film by now. A trip to PetsMart is the focal point of the day! Learning to run fast and leap onto the couch if you don't have shoes on...those puppy teeth are POWERFUL! Still enjoying the puppy smell, giggling when he snores and the tip of his tongue sticks out when he's sleeping. You officially have a "shadow" that follows you around the house.

Gotta love 'em!

First day - I picked Scooter by myself because my husband had to work late. I thought he would sit in the passengers seat on the ride home. Big mistake he was on my lap climbing in my face whining the whole way home. When we got home he was still whining because he has never been away from his family. All my relatives and my husbands relatives stopped over to see our new addition to the family and before you know it the whining stopped. My husband and I slept on the floor with him downstairs so we could take him out in the middle of the night. He never whined again after the first night!!
We got Scooter on a Friday night so we could be home with him all weekend. Everything was great and he was adjusting well. Then came Monday morning and we both had to work, so we blocked off the kitchen so he could have the whole kitchen. I didn't want to crate him. So we came home every night and he would get into the cabinets, the worse was breadcrumbs and oil all over!! The phone would be off the hook, pee all over! The last straw was when he learned to jump the fence that we used to keep him in the kitchen and went into the living room and distroyed my flower centerpiece! I had to get a crate that night or I wouldn't have a house left! But after a boxer does something wrong and you look at them with their sorry eyes your heart will melt and you cannot stay mad at them! I keep Scooter busy from the time I get home, I play with him, take him out and at night we always go for a walk, because we don't have a fenced in yard we take him to our parents and let him run. I am happy to say that Scooter never went through the chewing on furniture, shoes, etc phase, probably because we had lots of toys and bones for him and if we attempted to chew on something he shouldn't we corrected him right away.
Time flies by and we had Scooter for about a year now and we are looking into adding another boxer to the family!

1st day: tiny little beautiful prince we couldn't get enough of.
1st week: tiny little beautiful bundle of WORK!
1st month: stubborn demondog
2nd month: not so tiny little beautiful prince is back!

A joy every day, even when he made me cry in frustration! Puppies are a lot of work, make sure you have the time and energy they need. And if you're short on time, make sure you can cover the expense of daily doggy daycare. That (and probably the next natural phase they go through) turned the demon back into an angel! I would recommend taking two or three weeks time off of work though regardless...

First day- Full of exploring. We had to explore the whole house. It was cold outside, so she had to "go potty" on the welcome mat. Piles of poop all over the living room, chewing on mommies head while I was sleeping. Lots of fun.....

First week- Crate trained. No more potty messes, chewing on mommy. Went everywhere with mommy. Full of love and play.

First month- Learned sit and down commands. Met neighbor dogs. Still went everywhere with mommy(even work). Learned to walk next to mommy on leash(not exactly "heel"). Lots of training this month, and it has really paid off. Full of love and play. Why does mommy always take pictures of me?;)

Good luck!!!

Guiness was 10 weeks old when we got him on August 19th. The first few days were the toughest - everyone getting used to eachother. Alot of whining at night as he did not want to stay in his crate but after the first week that subsided. We put a clock next to his cage and that seemed to help - him hearing the ticking. He also quickly learned what "SHUSH!" meant!
He needed to be walked ALOT during the night - Midnight, 4 AM and again at 6:30 AM for the first two weeks. I felt like I had just given birth with the round the clock care that he needed.
Now, after three weeks, he can usually stay from Midnight until around 6:00-6:30 AM. Then he is ready to start the day although if I bring him to bed after walking him, he will snuggle up next to me and go back to sleep for a few more hours.
We have Guiness for three weeks now and today is his 3 mo. birthday. He is pretty well trained to potty outside and has very few accidents. I must admit he caught on really fast. We do crate him at night and during the day when we are not at home but we leave him to roam free when we are at home. We keep close tabs on him or we may miss his standing by the front door to go out. That's when he'll have an accident in the house but that is very rare since this past week at our house. He also can get into chewing on the wrong things and it gives us the opportunity to give him a toy or bone to chew on instead.
He does know to sit and stay pretty well already and he knows to go to the front door when he has to go potty.
He is a pretty calm puppy although he does have his moments where he dashes around the house and can be a lot of fun to play with!
We have a 1 1/2 yr. old boy in the house so it has taken some time to get them BOTH to play nice together. That area has been going pretty well lately but I still watch the two of them when they are together - my grandson tends to be the trouble maker, though, not the puppy!! But I have to watch that the puppy doesn't nip him while they are playing just because that's what puppies do when they play.
All in all - although I was reluctant to get my boxer (only because I had just put my Westie down two weeks prior), he grew on me very quickly and after just the first week, he was already an official member of our family! He's really a joy to have around and makes a very good family pet!
Hope this helps! Good luck!

I was actually terrified when I brought Monty home. Just 7 weeks old. Harriet and me were so excited but when the day came even though I'd got the food milk, bed toys, everything he needed, I was suddenly struck with this huge fear. I'd had my last dog for 14 years and suddenly I had a puppy again. I can honestly say it was like having a baby. He slept and slept, ate every four hours , had to be quickly taken out when waking, after eating, playing etc. I was bleary eyed but just two weeks later he was potty trained. From day one he slept in my bedroom and never wimpered.

He just grew and grew, played and played and within no time was finally locked in our hearts.

He's now two and I feel I can read every expression on his face. He is a very willfull boy who hates the word NO. I have my work cut out with him , but I love this guy to bits.

I simply dread the thought of the day when I will be without him.

OK...i'm now jealous of everyone here because my Lexus is 5 months and STILL a stubborn demon dog and she only weighs 22 lbs. Anyhow...the first week is great, the excitement of having the little puppy, the exploring, the puppy breath.....
then it's about at one month you realize that you should NEVER have white carpet and a pup.
I was pretty luck, Lexus loves her crate and is pretty potty trained, we have occasional accidents, no dogs are perfect, plus her bladder is not fully developed yet. But other than that, Lexus is a perfect angel while people are looking...but when you turn your head she's got her paws on the counter trying to see what she can reach and suddenly you hear huge BANG and all you see is lexus running like a flash toward the bedroom and Ramses hiding behind the couch...little rugrats...I love every minute of it..it's THE BEST

The first day is magic! We are so happy to have our baby! It's a fight to know who turn is it to hug her!

The first week is hard. Watching her all day long to bring her outside at the right time, waking up at night because she cries, you put her outside to see if she needs it, to realise she just miss mommy, you don't sleep much because you have to keep your hand in the crate so she can feel your presence, you do cleaning all day long to wash accidents, your nervous because your not sure she's eating enough, or because she eats everything that she founds on the floor even if you though you did a big cleaning of the house before she arrives, and then she meets the cats and you are afraid that she will get hurts...

The first month, everything is getting better. You get use to her, and she get use to you. She's asking for the door if you're lucky, she starts to sleep at night, but still wakes up at 6 in the morning, even the weekend. The worse thing is the biting with the baby teeth. It hurt so much! And she just can't understand why she should stop. She still scares our cats and don't understand to go softly. But one thing very fun at this age is that she learns very fast. She starts to sit on command, she comes to play with you, she is very funny trying to walk on leash.

It's getting a lot of fun when she is around 5 months. She loose her baby teeth, so you can start to really play with her, and she understand what you are telling her. The cats enjoy it too. She start obedience course, so the walk is beggining to be a pleasure.

And when she have 9 months, like mine now, it's paradise! She lishen very well, she starts being free in the house with no mess, she learn not to jump on you, she is starting to guard the house, and all she wants to do is to give hug, kisses and play! She is lovely!

1st day- Jasmine was very scared and not sure of where she was and why she was here. She cried all night long!! I stayed strong and didn't let her in the bedroom.
1st month- It's going well, she is pretty much potty trained and thinks she can run the house!

Bailey she was five when we brought her home. She was at the pound and we happend to walk in and rescue her. She is by far one of my best friends and I can't imagine life without her. Her first day was tough she was very scared which is understable. Her first month was better as she became more comfortable. So far it's been almost a year and she is wonderful. She has even been great with the new puppy. Good luck and I hope you get as wonderful of dogs as I have!
