What type of crate to get: wire or plastic?

Well, I have been looking at crates before the little guy gets here in May....what are the 'experts' opinions on which is best and why? I know wire lets in more air, and can be adjustable. Thoughts?

I picked up a wire crate because I thought that it would feel less claustrophobic for my Vegas. I grew up with a boxer who was claustrophobic and I wouldn't want this one to feel uncomfortable in her kennel.
It's also true that the wire kennels are easier to transport because they are collapsable and they definitely allow more air to flow through. I've read a lot of differing opinions on them though.

We've always had wire crates. Indy has one in the kitchen, sits by the sliding door and is always available to him. He goes in there a lot and just watches outside, doesn't mind it at all. I agree about being convenient for traveling and I feel like it's probably more comfortable in the hot summer as air circulation is obviously good.

That being said I'm sure others have good reason for really liking the plastic crates :)

I have a wire crate. It was given to me, but I love it. I have look for a new crate, but have not found any that I like. I really like to wire because it is portable and gives her so much room. The down side is: it I am not careful in locking it up properly she can excape and I had to train her not to "chew on the wire". She was chewing and her teeth would bleed. I also read on a thread that some dogs break their teeth on the wire by chewing.

Daisy has a Midwest (wire) portable crate and I love it. I bought a fleece bumper type bed for it and it's great. Just my 2 cents ;)

We have a wire crate as well. I also feel they are less restricting and travel quite well. We leave a lot on the weekends to go to the farm and it folds up flat which works wonderful when you have to be away from home. The crate goes everywhere Coco does.

I have both a wire crate and a plastic crate. I would use the wire crate when Otis needed to be crated during the day and it is out in the living room. His plastic crate is in the bedroom and is where he would sleep at night. It doesn't allow as much light in and I think he felt more comfortable in it. That has all changed since I brought home an 8.5 month old female on Sunday. Now both of their plastic crates are in the living room and that is where they are crated, day or night.

well I've only used the plastic and my friend who has a cocker spaniel tried a metal and the bottom plate came out from inside the cage, partly because the dog was throwing a fit so I don't know how good the metal is.

None of mine are crated any longer so we just have the crates in the garage.

We have used both types of crates, but Allie HATES the plastic kind. I think she doesn't like it because she can't see out very well. She whines and barks when we used to put her in there. With her wire crate, we have no problems! We love our wire crate, it is easy to transport, and she is happy with it!

We just love our crate! It is a Soft-Crate. We got it at Petco for about $159. Pricy yes, but Baylee loves it. It is soft and quiet but sturdy and tough too. It even has a stake flaps for camping. What I like most is that Baylee can see out of all side in her crate including above her. It has two zip openings. One above her too for an easy ear rub! We put her bed in it and she loves it. It is also easy to move from room to room because the kids fight over whose room Baylee can sleep in. We thought at first that her nails woulddid into the mesh and tear it up but we even dug a key into the mesh and it didn't even tear! They come in 4 sizes and colors. Mine matches my decor. Oooh La La!! I have NEVER had a crate before for a puppers so I really have nothing to compare this one to. I only heard about getting a crate from everyone here..By the way thanks guys! LOL Hope you get a winner too!
